JR Farm Natural Guinea Pig Food without Pellets is a grain-free and pellet-free complete food for guinea pigs. The mix consists of a rich base of mountain meadow plants, supplemented with herbs, seeds, vegetables, and flowers. As a result, this food looks, smells, and feels very different from a standard pellet food: loose, spicy, high in fiber, and full of recognizable plant parts.
This is a great choice for owners who want to feed consciously and provide their guinea pigs with more natural texture and a foraging experience. At DRD, when it comes to guinea pig food, we look not only at the ingredient list but, more importantly, at its role in the daily routine. This mix is well-suited for guinea pigs who enjoy sniffing, searching, and nibbling, while hay always remains the unlimited basis of the menu.

The composition of this feed is rich and remarkably naturally structured. The basis consists of vegetation from permanent grassland of the Alpine foothills, including timothy grass, foxtail, smooth oat, timothy grass, downy oat, meadow grass, red clover, dandelion, narrow-leaved plantain, daisy, marguerite, parsnip, sorrel, vetch, cow parsley, and yarrow.
In addition, the food contains recognizable ingredients such as parsley, pea flakes, carob, carrot, birch leaves, broad bean flakes, hazelnut leaves, marigold blossoms, cornflower blossoms, apple, flaxseed, peppermint, parsnip, nettle, and chamomile. It is precisely this variety that makes this mix interesting: your guinea pigs do not receive uniform pellets, but a loose mix with scent, color, and different textures.
For guinea pigs, eating is not just nutrition, but also a daily moment of searching, sniffing, and nibbling. This pellet-free texture mix aligns perfectly with that. You can provide the daily portion in a food bowl, or spread it partially across a clean hay area, foraging mat, or sniffing zone. This turns feeding into a calmer and more natural searching moment.
Pellet-free guinea pig food does not consist of compressed kibble or pellets, but of loose, recognizable ingredients. As a result, guinea pigs get more variety in scent, texture, and shape. This makes the food attractive to guinea pigs who like to pick and nibble.
A pellet-free mix does require mindful feeding. Only refill the food bowl when the portion is almost completely eaten. This prevents guinea pigs from choosing only their favorite parts and leaving the rest. If you have guinea pigs that are very selective eaters, an all-in-one pellet food might be more practical. For guinea pigs that eat well and a varied diet, this mix is actually a wonderful way to add a more natural experience to their daily diet.
For rabbits, chinchillas, degus, hamsters, mice, gerbils, and rats, you prefer to choose a food specifically formulated for that species. This mix was developed as guinea pig food and therefore belongs in the guinea pig routine.
Give JR Farm Natural Guinea Pig Food without Pellets as a measured daily portion alongside unlimited hay and daily vegetables. As a practical guideline, you can assume approximately 30 to 50 grams per adult guinea pig per day. The correct amount depends on size, age, activity, condition, group size, hay intake, and what else you offer.
Only refill the food bowl when the portion is almost completely eaten. This is important with a loose mix, because otherwise guinea pigs might pick out only their favorite parts. By providing a clear daily portion, you maintain better oversight and the diet remains nicely balanced.
You can divide the portion over two times a day. Part can go in the food bowl, and part can be spread throughout a clean hay area or foraging spot. This encourages your guinea pigs to actively search and spend more time on their food.
Are you switching from a different food? Then gradually mix this blend into the old food and build it up slowly over approximately 7 to 10 days. This allows your guinea pigs to get used to the smell, taste, and loose texture.
Because guinea pigs are social animals and should be kept with other guinea pigs, we calculate below based on a minimum of two guinea pigs. The guideline is based on approximately 30 to 50 grams per adult guinea pig per day.
| Packaging | 2 guinea pigs | 3 guinea pigs | 4 guinea pigs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 kg | approximately 20 to 33 days | approximately 13 to 22 days | about 10 to 16 days |
Calculation example: 2,000 grams ÷ 60 grams per day for 2 guinea pigs ≈ 33 days. For 2 guinea pigs at 50 grams per day, that is 2,000 grams ÷ 100 grams ≈ 20 days. The actual duration depends on size, portion, spillage, hay intake, and eating behavior.

For guinea pigs, this provides plenty of aroma, texture, and variety. The manufacturer also mentions the added benefit of natural vitamin C from parsley and dandelion. In addition, it remains important to continue offering sufficient hay and suitable fresh vegetables in the daily guinea pig routine.
A good guinea pig routine starts with unlimited hay. Therefore, combine this pellet-free guinea pig food with guinea pig hay , a suitable hay rack for guinea pigs , guinea pig herbs or toys, and foraging products . Mijn cavia’s hadden eerst gemixt voer.
