Product description

JR Farm Hemp Sticks – fibrous gnawing material for rodents and rabbits

JR Farm Hemp Sticks are natural hemp sticks for rodents and rabbits. You use them primarily as fibrous gnawing material: a different structure than wood, branches, or hard gnawing materials. As a result, they provide your animal with extra variety in the enclosure and something to gnaw on, pull on, move around, and keep quietly occupied.

The sticks are light, fibrous, and easy to distribute throughout the enclosure. For small rodents, they fit nicely into hamsterscaping or gerbilscaping, for example in a tunnel route, foraging corner, or digging zone. For dwarf rats and rats, they are fun as part of Ratscaping, where animals are allowed to drag, gnaw, and interact together. For guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, the sticks provide natural gnawing variety alongside their daily routine.

Why choose JR Farm Hemp Sticks?

Natural hemp gnawing material
Structure other than wood, willow, or branches
Fibrous material to gnaw, pull, and shred
Easy to distribute throughout the enclosure
Great as extra gnawing variety, foraging material, and a landscaping addition

At DRD, when it comes to gnawing material, we look not only at hardness but also at structure. Many gnawing materials are hard, such as wood, willow, or branches. Hemp sticks feel different: lighter, more fibrous, and easier to work with. This makes them interesting as an extra variation for animals that enjoy gnawing, pulling, or moving material.

The function is therefore very clear: you provide these sticks as natural gnawing and activity material. Your animal can nibble on them, loosen the fibers, take the sticks to a favorite spot, or use them within the enclosure's furnishings. In this way, you add more structure and activity to the enclosure with minimal material.

Chewing material with a structure other than wood

Wood and branches are often sturdy and hard. Hemp sticks, on the other hand, are more fibrous and lighter. As a result, animals can interact with them in different ways. Some animals gnaw off small pieces, while others pull at them, drag them along, or slowly work the fibrous structure loose.

Variety is valuable in an enclosure. An animal does not need to receive the same type of gnawing material every day. By alternating hard materials, soft natural materials, fibrous sticks, and foraging material, you make the enclosure more interesting without making it complicated.

Is this consistent with natural foraging and gnawing behavior?

In nature, animals are very occupied with small materials: twigs, stems, plant parts, fibers, and dry structures. They sniff them, pull at them, gnaw off pieces, and move material. Hemp sticks fit in nicely with this, because you don't just give them as a snack, but also as natural material to play with.

For small rodents, you can tuck the sticks partially into the bedding or hide them in a foraging corner. For rats, you can place them between tunnels, platforms, or sniffing material. For guinea pigs and rabbits, you can offer them near the hay corner, for example, as extra gnawing variety.

For which animals are JR Farm Hemp Sticks suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as small, fibrous gnawing material. Mice can move the sticks, gnaw on them, and incorporate them into their furnishings.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a natural gnawing variation in a hamsterscaping enclosure. Place a few sticks near a tunnel route, digging zone, or foraging corner.
  • Hamster: suitable as light gnawing and scaving material. Hamsters can gnaw on the sticks, move them, and take them to a favorite spot.
  • Gerbil: suitable as fibrous gnawing material. Gerbils can actively work, pull, shred, and move the sticks.
  • Dwarf rat: suitable as natural gnawing and foraging material. When buying dwarf rats, always pay attention to the actual body size and offer an appropriate size.
  • Rat: suitable as natural enrichment for rats who enjoy holding, dragging, gnawing, and playing together. Also nice in a Ratscaping setup.
  • Guinea pig: suitable as a quiet gnawing alternative alongside hay and guinea pig food. Place the sticks in a dry spot, for example near the hay corner.
  • Rabbit: suitable as natural gnawing material alongside hay and appropriate rabbit food. Rabbits can move the sticks, nibble on them, and work on them gently.
  • Chinchilla: suitable as a dry, natural gnawing variety. Offer in limited quantities and keep the daily diet calm, dry, and high in fiber.
  • Degu: suitable as a natural gnawing and foraging variation. Offer deliberately alongside hay, herbs, and appropriate degu food.

How do you feed JR Farm Hemp Sticks?

You can place the hemp sticks loosely in a dry, clean spot in the enclosure. For small rodents, it is fun to stick a few sticks partially into the bedding or incorporate them into a natural setup. This way, they don't just have to eat from a bowl, but can forage and gnaw for themselves.

For pygmy rats and rats, you can use the sticks in a Ratscaping or foraging setup, for example near tunnels, platforms, digging boxes, or sniffing areas. Rats can hold the sticks, carry them away, push them apart, or investigate them together.

For guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, you can offer the sticks in a designated snack or hay corner. This keeps things organized and dry, and provides your animal with an extra gnawing structure alongside their daily routine.

Composition & analysis

Composition: hemp.

Analysis: protein 1.8%, fat content 1%, crude fiber 53.9%, crude ash 3.3%, calcium 4100 mg/kg, phosphorus 1600 mg/kg, sodium 100 mg/kg.

The composition is simple and natural: hemp in stick form. The high crude fiber content matches the fibrous structure of these sticks. The added value lies primarily in its function as gnawing material: your animal gets a natural texture that feels different from wood, branches, or hard snacks.

Good to know

JR Farm Hemp Sticks are complementary pet food. Use them as gnawing material, a snack, and natural enrichment alongside the daily diet tailored to your animal. They are not medical sticks, supplements, or sedatives; we use them as a natural gnawing variation with a fibrous structure.

Not every animal uses hemp sticks in the same way. Some animals actively gnaw on them, while others drag them around, pull out the fibers, or use them as part of their furnishings. That is precisely the strength of this type of material: your animal can engage with it in its own way.

Store the hemp sticks in a dry, cool, and tightly sealed place. This way, the aroma and texture are preserved as well as possible.

Onze ratjes zijn er niet dol op, maar na verloop van tijd gaan ze er toch een beetje aan knagen. Ik zou ze niet nog een keer kopen, maar smaken verschillen natuurlijk :-).
