Why choose a plush tunnel?

A soft tunnel provides your animal with a sheltered place to walk through or rest in. Many animals enjoy having a clear passage or hiding place in their enclosure. This plush tunnel adds extra comfort to this, as the padded textile feels soft to the touch.

At DRD, we always pay close attention to the animal's behavior when it comes to textile products. Textiles are fine when your animal uses them to lie on or walk through. They are less suitable when your animal gnaws on them, pulls at them, or tries to loosen pieces of fabric.

For rats: soft tunnel and resting place

Rats love using tunnels, routes, and sheltered spots. This plush tunnel can be placed on the bottom of the cage or used as a soft passageway between other parts of the cage. You can combine it with hammocks, platforms, houses, and other tunnels so that your rats have various places to walk, rest, and sleep.

Regularly check for gnawing damage when dealing with rats. Some rats leave textiles intact, while others like to make holes or pull out fabric. Remove the tunnel as soon as loose threads or damage appear.

For guinea pigs: soft tunnel layer on the bottom

For guinea pigs, this tunnel is suitable as a low, soft tunnel on the floor of the enclosure. Guinea pigs are not climbers, but they enjoy using hiding places and passages they can easily walk through. Therefore, place the tunnel stably on the floor and ensure that your guinea pig can get in and out of it without difficulty.

The tunnel can be a nice addition to a quiet corner or along a walking route. Do check, however, that your guinea pig does not gnaw on or pull at the fabric. If your guinea pig primarily uses the tunnel as a sleeping spot or passageway, this can be a nice, soft addition.

For degus: only if they do not gnaw on textiles

Degus are true gnawers. Therefore, this tunnel is only suitable for degus that leave textiles completely alone. Do you see your degus pulling at it, loosening threads, making holes, or trying to eat the fabric? Then remove the tunnel from the enclosure immediately.

For degus, sturdy platforms, wooden hiding places, branches, gnawing material, and species-appropriate furnishings remain the most important foundation. This plush tunnel is therefore only an extra option for animals that neatly use textiles.

For which animals is the Fizi Plush Tunnel suitable?

• Mouse: not suitable as a standard tunnel. Mice can gnaw through textiles or carry loose fabric to the nest.
• Dwarf hamster: not suitable. For dwarf hamsters, deep bedding, natural tunnels, sand, and nesting material make more sense than textiles.
• Hamster: not suitable. Hamsters can gnaw through textiles or try to take them to their nest.
• Gerbil: not suitable. Gerbils are real destroyers and gnawers; textiles will likely be destroyed quickly.
• Dwarf rat: not included as a separate target group. For dwarf rats, it is preferable to choose based on size, passage, and textile behavior; for larger dwarf rats, a rat tunnel may sometimes be a better fit.
• Rat: suitable as a soft tunnel, resting place, or passageway in the cage. Check regularly for gnawing damage, loose threads, and fraying.
• Guinea pig: suitable as a soft tunnel on the floor. Use a low and stable surface so your guinea pig can easily walk in and out.
• Rabbit: not suitable. This tunnel is too small for rabbits, and rabbits are particularly prone to digging, pulling, and gnawing on textiles.
• Chinchilla: not suitable. Chinchillas are strong gnawers and prefer sturdy platforms, houses, and natural materials.
• Degu: only suitable if your degus do not destroy or eat textiles. Degus gnaw intensively, so supervision is extra important.

How do you use the tunnel?

Place the tunnel on a flat, stable spot in the enclosure. For guinea pigs, always use it on the floor. For rats, it can be used on the floor, on a platform, or as part of a route, as long as the tunnel is stable and cannot fall.

When are you removing the tunnel?

Remove the tunnel as soon as your animal chews through the textile, pulls out threads, or tries to eat pieces of fabric. The textile must remain intact for comfortable and safe use. Also, wash the tunnel or replace it temporarily if it is wet, dirty, or has a strong smell.

For animals that destroy textiles, more natural and sturdy material is often a better choice. Think of wooden houses, cork tunnels, willow tunnels, cardboard tunnels, platforms, or other materials that are better suited to gnawing behavior.

Cleaning and maintenance

The Fizi Plush Tunnel can be hand washed. First, remove hair, bedding, and loose dirt. Gently hand wash the tunnel and let it dry completely before putting it back.

After washing, check if the seams and fabric are still firm. Do not use the tunnel if the textile has become thin, torn, or frayed.
