Product description

Selective Naturals Botanicals Guinea Pig: Timothy Hay Nuggets with Herbs & Vitamin C

Looking for a complete daily kibble that complements a hay-based diet? Selective Naturals Botanicals is a guinea pig food with timothy hay and a herb mix (mint, thyme, basil, parsley, and dandelion). The various shapes and textures make feeding a little more fun, while providing a practical base that's easy to combine with hay, water, and vegetables.

Guinea pigs cannot produce their own vitamin C. Therefore, this food is enriched with vitamin C as a core part of the daily diet. Hay remains the most important component and should be available in unlimited quantities.

Nutrition in brief
Unlimited hay is the foundation. Additionally, provide fresh vegetables daily (preferably ones rich in vitamin C) and fresh drinking water. Complete pellets/nuggets are a helpful addition: you can weigh them to gauge appetite and condition. Snacks are a bonus and are best served as a small reward.

Plus points

  • Timothy hay as a basic raw material for structure and fibers
  • With herb mix: mint, thyme, basil, parsley and dandelion (each 0.1%)
  • High-fiber recipe (crude fiber 18%)
  • With vitamin C (1000 mg/kg) as a supplement within the daily menu
  • With prebiotics (MOS) in the recipe
  • No added sugars, colourings or flavourings (as stated by the manufacturer)

Why is Botanicals suitable for many guinea pigs?

Guinea pigs like to eat in small, frequent bites and enjoy a structured snack. A base of timothy hay works well in a diet where hay is readily available. The herbs add flavor and variety, which is appealing to many guinea pigs without the need for mixing.

Feeding & use

As a practical guideline, you can often assume approximately 40–50 grams per day per guinea pig for adult guinea pigs. Adjust this based on size, activity level, and the amount of hay and vegetables eaten. If you prefer to weigh, divide the portion into two portions per day.

  • Always unlimited hay of good quality
  • Fresh drinking water daily
  • Daily fresh vegetables as a supplement
  • When changing food: switch gradually
How long does a bag last approximately?
Simple calculation: content (grams) ÷ daily portion (40–50 g) = number of days.
Example
  • Example for 1500 g: ± 30–38 days for 1 guinea pig
  • For 2 guinea pigs: ± 15–19 days
Check the contents on your packaging and adjust the calculation accordingly.
Calculation step
Example: 1500 g ÷ 40 g = 37.5 days
Example: 1500 g ÷ 50 g = 30 days
For 2 guinea pigs, double the daily portion.
