Tip: If you want to continue building later, loose racks and connectors are especially handy to have in stock. With these, you can expand, repair, or adjust the layout without immediately choosing a completely new cage.

DRD tip: furnish the cage with open runways

A C&C enclosure works best when you don't fill it completely. Guinea pigs need to be able to walk, turn, pass, eat, and rest without constantly getting stuck between houses, hay, and water points. Therefore, think in terms of zones: a hay corner, a dry resting place, an open central route, multiple hiding places, and possibly a toilet area.

This is especially important when you have two or more guinea pigs. Provide multiple sheltered spots and wide passageways so that the animals can move past each other in a relaxed manner. This way, the cage becomes not only more spacious but also more pleasant for daily use.

Coroplast tray: practical and well-organized

The Coroplast bottom tray has raised edges and forms the practical base of the cage. The rim helps to keep bedding, hay, and loose materials better contained within the cage. Furthermore, the bottom combines well with washable mats, pee pads, or absorbent zones.

Many owners choose a combination for a C&C enclosure: a soft floor mat as a base, loose pee pads in wet spots, and litter bedding in the hay corner or litter box. This allows for targeted cleaning without having to constantly change the entire floor.

Coroplast is practical, lightweight, and waterproof, but it is not intended as gnawing material. If you notice your guinea pigs nibbling curiously at the edges, it often helps to enrich the setup with hay, gnawing material, hiding places, and variety. This keeps the bedding looking better and gives the animals more to do.

Modular and expandable

A major advantage of C&C is that you are not tied to one fixed shape. With separate racks, connectors, lofts, and matching floor solutions, you can modify or expand the enclosure later. This is useful when you want to create more space, try a different layout, or add an extra zone.

When expanding, don't just think about the panels. The base must also logically grow with it. Often, an expansion also requires an extra base mat, plasma mat, Coroplast section, or absorbent zone.

The ramp is used with the loft and can be secured with the included mounting hardware. Press the panels firmly into the connectors so that the setup is taut and sturdy. This provides the best result and makes the cage more pleasant for daily use.

Cleaning the C&C cage

A C&C guinea pig cage is easy to keep clean when you work with zones. Remove wet hay, wet pee pads, and soiled litter in time. The main base then does not always need to be completely replaced.

A practical routine is:

• Remove wet hay and visible puddles daily
• Regularly change pee pads in fixed wet spots
• keep toilet bedding in the hayloft
• keep feeding and watering areas clean
• Check the Coroplast bottom for dirt along edges and corners.

Good to know

A C&C guinea pig cage is flexible, but works best when the assembly remains calm and logical. Check that the panels are standing firmly, that connectors are securely fastened, and that the bottom fits together neatly. This ensures the enclosure remains pleasant to use and easy to maintain.
