Product description

Plush Hammock Tipi Tent 42 cm for rodents

The Plush Hammock Tipi Tent 42 cm is a soft, sheltered tipi-shaped hammock for animals that like to lie comfortably, hang, or retreat for a moment. Due to its shape, this hammock feels cozier than a regular open hammock. This makes it especially fun for rats who like to sleep higher up, but also for guinea pigs when the tipi is hung low and taut.

At DRD, when it comes to hammocks, we always consider the animal, the hanging height, the material, and its use in the enclosure. This tipi is made of soft plush and can be attached to bars or a sturdy hanging point using the suspension. For climbers such as rats, it can be hung higher, while guinea pigs, chinchillas, and degus benefit more from a low, stable placement and good control over gnawing behavior.

In short

  • Soft plush tipi-shaped hammock.
  • Approx. 42 cm, spacious and sheltered in shape.
  • Nice as a resting place, hangout spot, or soft place to lie down.
  • Suitable for rats as a higher hangout with safe routes.
  • For guinea pigs, hang only low and taut so that getting in remains easy.
  • Only suitable for chinchillas and degus if they handle fabric materials gently.
  • Not chew-proof: check regularly for dust, seams, and hanging points.

Why choose the Plush Hammock Tipi Tent?

A hammock or soft resting place gives animals more choice in their enclosure. Rats like to use multiple levels and often sleep in hammocks, cubes, or soft houses. A tipi hammock provides additional shelter, as your animal is not completely exposed. This makes the tipi pleasant as a resting place, sleeping spot, or retreat.

For guinea pigs, a hammock works differently than for rats. Guinea pigs are not climbers and need to be able to step in easily. When you hang this tipi low and taut, it can actually become a nice, soft place to sit or lie down. So, do not hang it high for guinea pigs, but just above the ground or low enough so they can step in without difficulty.

The plush interior feels soft and comfortable. This makes the tipi attractive to animals that like to lie on something soft. At the same time, it remains important to closely observe your own animal's behavior. Some animals lie neatly in a fabric hammock, while others like to pull at the fabric, seams, or suspension points.

For which animals is this tipi hammock suitable?

  • Dwarf rat: suitable if the dwarf rat is a good size match. Because dwarf rats can vary in size, actual body size remains the deciding factor. Ensure sturdy suspension and safe routes.
  • Rat: very suitable as a soft hanging spot in a rat cage. Rats enjoy climbing and often use hammocks as sleeping, resting, and gathering places. Always ensure there is fall protection under the hammock.
  • Guinea pig: suitable when the tipi is hung low, taut, and stable. Guinea pigs must be able to easily step in and out without having to climb or jump.
  • Chinchilla: suitable for chinchillas that handle fabric materials carefully. Chinchillas can be avid gnawers, so check carefully to ensure the fabric remains intact.
  • Degu: suitable for degus that do not actively chew on fabric, seams, or suspension. Hang the tipi securely and check regularly for wear.

For mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, this tipi is usually less logical as a permanent enclosure, as these animals are often more focused on digging, gathering nesting material, and gnawing on loose or soft materials. For rabbits and ferrets, you would prefer to choose a larger or differently shaped house, basket, tunnel, or sleeping bag that better suits their size and movement patterns.

Use for rats

For rats, the tipi may be hung higher in the enclosure. Rats are good climbers and enjoy using the height in their cage. They often sleep at the top, especially when there are soft hanging spots, platforms, and clear routes available.

Hang the tipi in a place where your rats can easily reach it via platforms, ladders, ropes, or other routes. Always ensure that any potential fall is cushioned by a platform, another hammock, or soft furnishings underneath. This way, the tipi remains a comfortable and safe extra sleeping spot.

Use for guinea pigs

For guinea pigs, this tipi is particularly interesting as a low, soft resting place. Hang it just above the ground or low enough so that your guinea pig can step into it without difficulty. Preferably, the tipi should hang taut enough so that it does not sway too much when your guinea pig lies down inside.

A low tipi can be a nice extra resting place in a guinea pig enclosure or run. Place it, for example, in a quiet corner, next to a hay rack, or under a platform. Use it as an extra comfort spot, not as the only hiding place. Guinea pigs always need multiple sheltered spots to be able to choose where they want to lie down in peace.

For use with chinchillas and degus

Chinchillas and degus may enjoy soft hanging spots, but the animal's behavior remains the primary factor. Both animals can actively gnaw and dislodge materials. Therefore, only use the tipi when you observe that your animals handle the fabric and suspension properly.

Hang the tipi securely and regularly check the seams, fabric, and fastening. Do you notice your animal pulling at the fabric, working seams loose, or trying to reach the filling? If so, remove the tipi from the enclosure and opt for a sturdier house, platform, or wooden shelter instead.

How do you hang the tipi safely?

  • Attach the tipi to sturdy bars or a stable suspension point.
  • Check that the suspension is securely fastened before your animal uses the tipi.
  • Hang the tipi for rats in a place with clear climbing routes.
  • When placing at a higher level, always ensure fall protection under the hammock.
  • Hang the guinea pig tipi low and taut so that it remains easy to get in.
  • Regularly check the fabric, seams, and suspension points.

A tipi hammock must be easily accessible. Do you notice that your animal is having trouble getting in or becoming insecure due to the swinging? Then hang the tipi lower or make the route easier. For young, older, or less agile animals, hanging it low is usually the best choice.

Materials and maintenance

The Plush Hammock Tipi Tent is made of soft plush. Plush feels comfortable and makes the tipi attractive to pets that enjoy lying on something soft. Because the fabric can trap hair, dust, and bedding, regular shaking out and cleaning is important.

Clean the tipi according to the instructions on the washing label when necessary. Let it dry completely before hanging it back up. While cleaning, immediately check that the fabric, seams, and hanging points are still intact and sturdy.

Good to know

This tipi is soft and comfortable, but not chew-proof. This is normal for plush products. Use it primarily for animals that handle fabric materials carefully, and check regularly for loose threads, holes, or damage.

Do you see clear wear, loose filling, broken seams, or damaged suspension? Then remove the tipi from the enclosure. This way, the setup remains pleasant, organized, and suited to your animal's behavior.
