Apple Pellets – a fruity little treat made from 100% apple

The Apple Pellets from our own brand, Knaagdier Kruidenier, are made from 100% apple. No fillers, no additives and no added sugar: just pure apple in a convenient pellet shape. A tasty treat for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, gerbils, rats, guinea pigs and rabbits.

Offer a small reward while getting to know your pet, hide a little around the enclosure or turn treat time into a searching activity. For rats, guinea pigs and rabbits, the pellets can also be used in a suitable treat ball, snuffle mat or treat board. This gives you several ways to offer the same treat.

Pure apple, with nothing added

Want to know exactly what you are giving your pet? The composition of these pellets is simple: apple. No other ingredients are added to bulk out the pellets or make them sweeter. Their fruity flavour comes entirely from the apple itself.

No added sugar does not mean sugar-free. Apple contains naturally occurring sugars. Offer the pellets as a small fruity extra alongside your pet’s daily diet. Even a little reward can create an enjoyable moment, without filling a whole bowl with treats.

A tasty reward while getting to know your pet

A small treat can be a lovely opportunity to build a connection with your pet at a gentle pace. Offer a little apple pellet and let your pet decide whether to come closer. There is no need to rush: watching, sniffing and stepping away again are all part of getting acquainted.

You can offer the treat from your hand or place it close to your hand first. This keeps the interaction simple and easy to follow. The pellets are also useful when you occasionally want to offer a little reward during a familiar care routine.

Hide, sniff and discover

For small rodents, you can hide a small amount of pellets in different accessible places around the enclosure. Place a little between enclosure furnishings, for example, or scatter a small amount around. This means the treat is not always in the same spot and your pet can search for it.

Start with easy hiding places. You can then add variety by offering the treat somewhere else. The activity is about searching and discovering; there is no need to keep adding more pellets. Even a small amount spread out provides several places to investigate.

For rats, guinea pigs and rabbits: combine with foraging toys

For rats, guinea pigs and rabbits, you can also use Apple Pellets as a reward in appropriate foraging toys. Choose a design that suits your pet and allows easy access to the pellets.

• Treat ball: put a small amount in a refillable treat ball. Check that the pellets can fall through the opening easily when your pet moves the ball.
• Snuffle mat: spread a little between the strips so your pet can use its nose to search for the treats.
• Treat board: place a few pellets in the compartments. Start with a simple setup so your pet can discover how to reach the reward.

Feel free to alternate between these options. Offer a little reward by hand one time, then turn it into a sniffing or searching activity the next.

Good to know

Divide the amount you intend to give across the treat activity. Using the pellets in several ways, such as by hand and in a treat board? Keep the total amount in mind. Store the pack in a cool, dry place and keep it tightly closed. Remove any leftovers that have become damp or dirty.
