Product description

Trixie Ceramic House for small rodents

The Trixie Ceramic House is a sturdy and cozy little house for small rodents. Thanks to the ceramic material, the house feels cooler on warm days than many wooden or fabric houses. This makes it a nice extra resting place in the summer, especially for animals that like to lie sheltered but still seek a cooler spot.

The house has a closed, sheltered shape and a removable roof. This allows your pet to retreat quietly, while you can easily inspect and clean the house. Furthermore, the glazed ceramic is easy to wipe down, as moisture and urine penetrate the material less quickly than with untreated natural material.

Why choose a ceramics house?

Small rodents like to seek out sheltered spots. A little house provides peace, safety, and a fixed place to sleep or make a nest. Ceramic has an additional advantage in this regard: the material feels naturally cool and smooth. This makes this house particularly appealing during warm periods, when your pet likes to seek out a cooler spot.

In the summer, a ceramic house can help provide more temperature variety in the enclosure. Your animal can choose whether to lie inside the ceramic house, rest next to it, or prefer another spot. This choice is important because animals do not all react to heat in the same way.

During colder periods, the house can actually feel cozy when your pet incorporates nesting material into it. Ceramic is sturdy and insulating, ensuring the house remains a comfortable shelter and sleeping place even outside of the summer months.

For which animals is the Trixie Ceramic House suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a sturdy shelter and cool resting place. Optionally supplement it with suitable nesting material so that mice can make a cozy spot out of it themselves.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a cooling house, sleeping place, or extra hiding spot. Place the house low and stable on or partially in the bedding.
  • Hamster: suitable as an extra ceramic house, especially during warm days. For larger hamsters, pay close attention to whether the entrance and interior space are spacious enough for your animal.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a sturdy ceramic shelter. Gerbils can actively dig and gnaw, so place the house stably and prevent it from sinking.

For rats, pygmy rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, degus, and ferrets, this ceramic house is usually less suitable as a shelter, because the size and use are primarily aimed at small rodents. For these animals, you would prefer to choose a more spacious hiding place, tunnel, platform, or other product that better suits their body size and way of moving.

Usage & placement

Place the ceramic house low and stable in the enclosure. Preferably place it on a flat surface or press it lightly into the bedding so that it cannot slide or tip over. For animals that dig frequently, such as hamsters and gerbils, stable placement is especially important.

Use the little house as an extra choice spot. Do not place it as the only shelter, but combine it with other houses, tunnels, and sheltered areas. This way, your pet can choose for itself where it wants to sleep, cool down, or rest.

Do you want to make the little house extra pleasant in the summer? Then place it in a cool, shady spot in the enclosure, out of direct sunlight. Do not place it next to a heat source and do not use it as a substitute for a well-ventilated, cool environment.

Why a removable roof is handy

The removable roof makes it easier to take a quick look inside the house without lifting the entire structure. This is handy when you want to check if there are old food stashes, fresh vegetables, or wet nesting material inside.

This can be especially practical for hamsters, as they like to hoard. With a removable roof, you can check and clean more quickly, while the spot remains familiar to your pet. Lift the roof gently and disturb the nest as little as possible.

What is ceramics?

Ceramic is glazed earthenware. The difference between ceramic and terracotta is that ceramic has a glaze layer. Due to this smooth layer, ceramic is strong, water-resistant, insulating, and easy to clean.

That is practical for a rodent house. Any puddles or dirt soak into the material less quickly and can be wiped away more easily. This makes ceramic particularly nice for owners looking for a house that is sturdy, neat, and easy to keep clean.

Ceramic is a fired natural product and may exhibit minor imperfections in shape, glaze, or finish. This is inherent to this type of material.

Cleaning and maintenance

Wipe the ceramic house with a damp cloth or, if necessary, rinse it gently with lukewarm water. Dry the house thoroughly before placing it back in the enclosure. Immediately check for any sharp edges, cracks, or damage.

Preferably do not use harsh cleaning agents. If you do use a cleaning agent, rinse the house very thoroughly and let it dry completely before placing it back with your pet.

For you as a pet owner, this provides extra guidance when choosing a product intended for pet-friendly use. It remains important to place the house appropriately, check it regularly, and keep it clean.
