Product description

Trixie Rock Hiding Place 30 cm for small rodents

The Trixie Rock Hideout 30 cm is a realistic resin hideout for small rodents such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils. Thanks to its steppe rock look, this hideout fits beautifully into a natural interior, hamsterscaping, or gerbilscaping.

The hideout has a low, flat shape and an open bottom. This allows you to easily place it on top of or lightly embedded in the bedding. Your animal gets a sheltered spot to crawl under, walk through, or sit quietly out of sight. Thanks to the flat top, small animals can also walk over it when the hideout is positioned low and stable.

Why choose a rock shelter?

A hiding place is one of the most important components of a rodent enclosure. Small rodents like to have multiple places where they can hide, rest, or sit out of sight. The Trixie Rock Hiding Place provides that shelter, but at the same time adds a natural landscaping element to the enclosure.

Thanks to its low shape, you can beautifully incorporate the hiding place into the substrate. For example, place a border of substrate, dried moss, or cork around it so that the rock blends naturally with the rest of the setup. This creates a quiet route or hiding place without the enclosure becoming cluttered.

Resin is practical when you want a natural look but are also looking for a product that is easy to clean. This is handy when your pet likes to eat in or under a house, hoards, or uses the spot as a regular resting place.

How do you use the Rock Shelter in the enclosure?

  • Place the shelter low and stable on, or lightly in, the bedding.
  • Ensure that the opening remains easily accessible.
  • Optionally finish the edges with ground cover, moss, or cork.
  • Use the hiding place as a resting place, passageway, or sheltered corner.
  • Check for sharp edges or wear before use and regularly thereafter.

For hamsters and dwarf hamsters, placing them low is most comfortable. These animals live primarily on and in the ground and are not true climbers. The hiding place may therefore be part of a route, but do not turn it into a high climbing structure.

For which animals is this shelter suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a hiding place, passageway, and part of a natural setup. Mice can also walk over the hiding place if it is stable.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a low hiding place in a hamsterscape. Place it on or lightly in the bedding.
  • Hamster: suitable for hamsters that fit comfortably through the opening. For a larger Syrian hamster, always check if the opening and interior space are suitable.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a sturdy hiding place and landscaping element. Gerbils dig actively, so check regularly that the hiding place remains stable.

For rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, this shelter is too low or too small to serve as a proper hiding or sleeping place. For these animals, it is better to choose a more spacious house that suits their size and movement patterns.

Hamsterscaping and gerbilscaping

The steppe rock look makes this hiding place very suitable for a natural scape. In a hamster scape, you can use it as a quiet hiding spot among bedding, sand, moss, and cork. In a gerbil scape, the rock can serve as a sturdy, visible element, as long as it stands stably and cannot sink due to digging.

  • Use the rock as a transition between different zones.
  • Combine with tunnels or cork for extra route options.
  • Finish the edges with ground cover or moss for a natural transition.
  • Always place heavy parts stably, not loosely on top of diggable ground cover.

Stability is especially important for gerbils. Preferably place the hiding place on a solid surface or ensure that it cannot tip over when digging underneath it.

Material and dimensions

  • Dimensions: approx. 30 × 25 × 10 cm
  • Opening: approx. 17 × 7 cm

Cleaning and maintenance

  • Regularly lift the shelter to check under and around the little house.
  • Remove bedding, leftover food, or nesting material when necessary.
  • Wipe down the hiding place with a damp cloth.
  • Let the shelter dry thoroughly before putting it back.
  • Check regularly for sharp edges, damage, or wear.

Resin is easy to clean. This makes this hiding place practical for animals that like to hoard or eat in their shelter. Preferably, do not place the rock directly under a water bottle or in a wet spot.

Good to know

  • For larger hamsters, check if the opening and interior space are spacious enough.
  • Place the shelter low and stable.
  • Do not use the shelter as a high platform.
  • Check for sharp edges before use and sand smooth if necessary.
