The Plain Wooden Corner Platform 22 cm is a compact wooden platform that you can attach to the bars of the cage. Thanks to the corner shape, you make smart use of the space and easily create an extra perch, step, pathway, or small mezzanine in the enclosure.
How you use this platform depends heavily on the animal species. For ground-dwelling animals such as dwarf hamsters and hamsters, use the platform low down as an extra surface or step. For climbing animals such as mice, pygmy rats, and rats, the platform may be placed somewhat higher as part of a safe climbing route. For jumping animals such as gerbils, chinchillas, and degus, the platform can be fun as an intermediate point in a setup with different heights.

A corner platform helps to organize the enclosure more efficiently. You create an extra surface without losing much floor space. This can be useful as a step, a small lookout point, a point of transition to another platform, or as part of a route through the enclosure.
At DRD, when it comes to platforms, we look not only at the dimensions but, more importantly, at how the animal moves. A hamster uses height differently than a rat, and a chinchilla jumps differently than a mouse climbs. Therefore, the placement of the platform is at least as important as the platform itself.
Dwarf hamsters and hamsters are true ground animals. They do sometimes climb onto things, but they are not built to live safely at great heights. Therefore, use this platform at a low level, for example as a small step, feeding area, or an extra flat spot in the enclosure.
Never hang the platform high for dwarf hamsters and hamsters. Ensure there is sufficient bedding underneath and that your animal can easily get on and off without falling. For hamsterscaping, a low platform can also be useful for stably placing a small food bowl, water bowl, or decorative element.
Mice, pygmy rats, and rats enjoy using different levels in the enclosure. For these animals, the corner platform can be mounted somewhat higher, for example, as an intermediate step to another platform, a hammock, a tunnel, or a higher route.
When it comes to dwarf rats, pay close attention to their actual body size. Dwarf rats can vary among themselves, so always check if the platform is large and stable enough for your animals. For adult rats, this platform is primarily useful as a step or intermediate platform, not as a spacious sleeping area.
Gerbils, chinchillas, and degus make good use of different heights in the enclosure. This corner platform can then serve as an intermediate point, lookout spot, or stepping stone in a larger route with multiple platforms.
For jumping animals, stability is especially important. Securely attach the platform to the bars and ensure that the distances between platforms remain logical. The animal must be able to land safely and not fall from too great a height onto a hard surface.
The platform can be attached to the bars of the cage. Preferably place it in a corner so that the platform hangs securely and in a space-saving manner. After attaching, check that the platform hangs straight, does not wobble, and fits snugly against the bars.
| Animal group | Usage | Practical placement |
| Ground animals | Dwarf hamster, hamster | Hang low as an extra surface or step. |
| Climbing animals | Mouse, pygmy rat, rat | As an intermediate step on a safe climbing route. |
| Jumping animals | Gerbil, chinchilla, degu | As an intermediate shelf within a multi-height configuration. |
Always hang the platform securely and straight. Check that the attachment is properly secured and that the platform cannot tip over when your animal jumps, walks, or climbs on it. Position the platform so that your animal can reach it logically and does not have to fall from a great height.
For dwarf hamsters and hamsters, hanging things low is especially important. For mice, rats, gerbils, chinchillas, and degus, you can work more with height, but only when the route is safe, stable, and easily accessible.
Clean the platform with a dry brush or a slightly damp cloth. Always allow the wood to dry thoroughly before your animal makes intensive use of it again. Do not place the platform in a wet spot for extended periods and prevent urine from soaking into the wood.
Regularly inspect the platform for gnawing damage, cracks, loose fastenings, or sharp edges. Replace the platform when it is no longer sturdy or safe.
This is a compact platform. For small animals, that can be very handy, but for larger animals, you need to carefully consider its use. For an adult rat, chinchilla, or degu, this is primarily a step or intermediate point, not a large resting platform.
Always check if the platform fits the cage, the bar spacing, and the way your animal moves. A platform must hang securely, be easily accessible, and not present an unnecessary risk of falling.
You use the platform as an extra surface, step, climbing platform, or intermediate platform in the enclosure.
