Critter Bath House Stone 12 cm for mice, dwarf hamsters and gerbils

The Critter Bath House Stone 12 cm is a small ceramic house for mice, dwarf hamsters, and gerbils. Thanks to the enclosed design with a round opening at the front, your pet can use the house as a sheltered hiding place, resting spot, or a small sand corner with a thin layer of sand.

At DRD, when it comes to ceramic houses, we focus primarily on size, opening, material, and practical use. This house measures approximately 11 × 10 × 12 cm, has an opening of approximately ø 6 cm, and is made of ceramic. Ceramic is smooth, sturdy, and easy to wipe clean, making this house ideal for owners looking for a compact house that looks good and is easy to keep clean.

Why choose the Critter Bath House Stone?

A small ceramic house is handy when you are looking for a hiding place that is sturdy, smooth, and easy to keep clean. Mice, dwarf hamsters, and gerbils enjoy using sheltered spots to rest, retreat, or observe their surroundings from a safe vantage point. Thanks to its compact shape, this house can be nicely placed in a scape, sand zone, or quiet corner of the enclosure.

The little house can be used in two ways. You can offer it as a small hiding place, for example with a little bedding or nesting material around it. Alternatively, you can put a thin layer of sand inside to create a small sandy corner. This can be especially fun for dwarf hamsters as an extra sandy spot alongside a spacious sand bath.

The ceramic finish makes this house practical. Ceramic absorbs moisture and odors less quickly than untreated wood and can be easily wiped clean. This is convenient when your pet uses the house intensively or when sand, bedding, or small scraps occasionally end up inside.

For which animals is the Critter Bath Stone House suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a compact ceramic shelter. Mice love multiple small hiding places and can use this house as a resting place or sheltered corner.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a small house, cool spot, or sand corner. The opening of approx. ø 6 cm fits many dwarf hamsters well, but always consider the body size of your animal.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a ceramic hiding place or sand corner. Gerbils are active diggers and gnawers; ceramic is practical because it is smooth and sturdy. Make sure to place the house securely.

For larger hamsters, such as Syrian hamsters and golden hamsters, this house is usually too small as a comfortable permanent hiding place. This product is also too small for dwarf rats, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus. For these animals, it is preferable to choose a more spacious house, tunnel, or sand bath that is well-suited to their body size and usage.

Use as a shelter or a sand corner

The Critter Bath House Stone is versatile thanks to the ceramic and the enclosed shape. As a hideout, it provides your pet with a compact, sheltered spot. As a sand corner, you can place a thin layer of suitable sand inside, allowing your pet to sniff, forage, or sit briefly in the sand.

Please note: due to its compact size, this is not a substitute for a spacious sand bath. Dwarf hamsters, in particular, often enjoy a separate sand bath where they can really roll and move around. This little house is especially nice as an extra small sand spot, as a decorative sand house, or as a compact part of the decor.

Ceramics in a hamster or gerbil enclosure

Ceramic is a nice material for small houses and sand baths. It is smooth, relatively heavy, and easy to clean. In a hamster enclosure, ceramic can also provide a pleasant, cooler resting place, especially when the house is placed in a shady spot within the enclosure.

Ceramic is practical for a gerbil enclosure because gerbils dig frequently and enjoy gnawing on wooden or cardboard materials. A ceramic house retains its shape and combines well with bedding, sand, cork, and other natural materials. However, always place it securely so that it cannot tip over or sink when your gerbils dig.

How do you use the little house?

  • Place the little house low and stable on the bottom of the enclosure.
  • Use it as an extra hiding place, resting spot, or small sandy corner.
  • Optionally, put a thin layer of suitable sand in it if you use it as a sand corner.
  • Ensure that the opening remains easily accessible.
  • Check regularly that the cottage remains clean and dry.
  • Clean ceramics with lukewarm water and let them dry thoroughly before putting them back.

Are you using the little house as a sand corner? Remove soiled sand in time and replace the sand when necessary. Are you using it as a hideout? Then you can combine it nicely with a soft bedding, a tunnel, or a natural hiding route around it.

Materials and maintenance

The Critter Bath House Stone is made of ceramic. Ceramic is glazed earthenware. The glaze makes the material smooth, more water-resistant, and easy to clean. As a result, any puddles or dirt can be wiped away more easily than with untreated wood.

Clean the house with lukewarm water and do not use harsh cleaning agents. Allow the house to dry completely before placing it back. During each cleaning, also check that the ceramic is still intact and that no sharp damage has occurred.

Good to know

Ceramic may show minor imperfections. This is inherent to this type of product and the glazed finish. Always check the playhouse before use and place it stably so that it cannot tip over or hit glass or other hard surfaces.

Due to its size and the opening of approx. ø 6 cm, this house is primarily intended for small animals. Always consider the actual size of your animal. An opening must be wide enough so that your animal can enter and exit comfortably.

Heel schattig huisje (konijnhuisje) maar toch minder geschikt voor zandbadje. Mijn Robo hamster gooit alle zand eruit want de rand is toch wel een beetje laag.
