The Hamtaro Food & Drink System is a compact 3-in-1 system for small rodents such as mice and dwarf hamsters. It combines a feeding station, water bottle, and small hiding place into one convenient unit. This makes the enclosure more organized and ensures that food and water are kept neatly together.
For owners, this is particularly practical: the water bottle sits securely in the holder, the bottle can be removed for cleaning or refilling, and your pet immediately has a designated spot for food and drink. For your pet, the system provides familiarity within the enclosure: a clear feeding and drinking area that he can easily access.

Mice and dwarf hamsters benefit from a fixed, recognizable place for food and drink. With the Hamtaro, the water bottle sits securely in a holder and the feeding area is located right nearby. This makes it clear to your pet where to go for its daily basic needs.
The small hiding opening also provides an extra sheltered spot. For mice and small dwarf hamsters, this can be a nice crawl-through spot or a short resting place. Use the Hamtaro primarily as a practical feeding and drinking station, along with sufficient other hiding places, deep bedding, and nesting material in the enclosure.
This system is convenient for owners because it combines food and water in one compact spot. This can certainly provide a clear overview, especially in a smaller enclosure or a temporary setup. The water bottle does not hang loosely from the bars but sits in the plastic holder, making the system look neat and stable.
At DRD, when it comes to drinking systems, we focus primarily on practical usability, animal size, and appropriate use. This system is well-suited for mice and dwarf hamsters. For larger animals or strong rodents, we prefer to choose a more spacious or sturdier drinking and feeding system that better matches their size and behavior.
A designated feeding and drinking area helps keep the enclosure organized. For example, you can place the Hamtaro in a stable spot where you can easily access it to refill food and clean the bottle.
The drinking bottle can be removed from the holder. This is practical for daily checking, refilling, and cleaning. Always check that the ball valve is working properly and that your animal can easily reach the drinking opening.
Gerbils are true gnawers and can work extensively on materials. The Hamtaro is made of hard plastic, but for gerbils, the less protected water bottle is a particular concern. Therefore, for gerbils, we prefer a sturdier drinking system that is better protected against gnawing.
For gerbils, a separate, well-protected water bottle or a sturdy water bowl is often a better choice, combined with a separate food bowl or foraging moments in the bedding.
For Syrian hamsters, the system as a whole is too compact. In particular, the hiding place opening of approx. Ø 4.5 cm is too small for comfortable use. A hamster must be able to easily pass through an opening, even with filled cheek pouches. Therefore, we recommend a larger house and a separate, matching water bottle or bowl for Syrian hamsters.
The Hamtaro can be practical for dwarf hamsters, provided you carefully check that your animal can easily reach the drinking opening and uses the system comfortably.
Place the Hamtaro on a flat, stable spot in the enclosure. Ensure that the drinking opening is easily accessible and that your animal does not have to climb to drink. Do not place the system in a location where a lot of bedding ends up in the food bowl.
| Usage | Practical tip |
| Drinking spot | Check daily whether water is coming out of the ball valve and whether the bottle is properly seated in the holder. |
| Feeding spot | Use for the daily portion or a small part of the food; foraging is also permitted loose in the enclosure. |
| Shelter | View the opening as an extra sheltered spot, not as the only little house in the enclosure. |
| Control | Regularly check for signs of gnawing, wear, and whether all parts are still functioning properly. |
Check daily whether the water bottle is working properly. Tap the ball briefly to see if water comes out and check if the water level drops normally. This way, you can be sure that your animal can drink.
Clean the bottle regularly and change the water on time. The bottle can be removed from the holder, making cleaning and refilling easier.
Clean the plastic part regularly with lukewarm water and a soft brush or cloth. Rinse thoroughly and let everything dry before putting the system back. Also clean the drinking bottle and the drinking spout well so that no food residue or deposits remain.
Regularly check the system for wear, gnaw marks, and sharp edges. Do not use the system if parts are damaged or the drinking bottle is no longer functioning properly.
Use the Hamtaro as a convenient feeding and drinking area, but also always ensure a complete setup with sufficient bedding, a suitable house, nesting material, a running wheel, a sand bath, and enrichment. For small animals, choice in the enclosure is important: eating, drinking, sleeping, digging, washing, and foraging should all have their own designated space.
For dwarf hamsters, check if the hiding place is suitable for your animal. Not every dwarf hamster is equally small. The drinking and feeding area can be very handy, but a more spacious extra house is always recommended.
You use it as a compact feeding station, water bottle holder, and small extra hiding place for mice and dwarf hamsters.
