Product description

Mealberry Little One Insect Mix 75 grams

Mealberry Little One Insect Mix is a protein-rich snack mix for small omnivorous rodents. The mix consists of dried silkworm pupae, black soldier fly pupae, mealworms, and crickets. This makes it a great snack for animals that can benefit from animal protein as a supplement to their daily basic diet.

At DRD, when it comes to insect snacks, we focus primarily on their role in the diet. This mix is not a staple food, but rather a supplementary source of protein for animals such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, gerbils, pygmy rats, and rats. You can offer the insects separately, mix them into their food, or use them as small foraging rewards.

Why choose Little One Insect Mix?

Many small omnivorous rodents eat not only seeds, grains, and plant parts, but can also utilize animal protein as part of a varied diet. Think of mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, gerbils, and rats. With this insect mix, you can offer that animal protein in a targeted and organized manner.

The mix contains multiple insect species. As a result, you are not providing a single protein source, but a combination of silkworms, soldier fly pupae, mealworms, and crickets. This provides variety in scent, texture, and size, making the mix fun to use in a foraging area as well.

This insect mix pairs particularly well with foods that do not contain added animal proteins. This allows you to keep the basic diet simple and manage the protein intake separately. Please also check out our category of animal proteins for rodents .

For which animals is the Little One Insect Mix suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a protein-rich snack in small quantities. Because mice are social animals and should be kept with other mice, you can offer small amounts spread out so that multiple mice can search for them.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as an animal protein supplement. Give a small amount as a snack or hide a few pieces in a foraging area.
  • Hamster: suitable as a protein-rich snack for Syrian hamsters. You can offer the insects separately or use them within hamsterscaping and foraging.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a protein-rich snack and foraging activity. Because gerbils are social animals and should be kept with other gerbils, offering them spread out is often preferable.
  • Fat-tailed gerbil: very interesting as a targeted insect supplement alongside an appropriate basic diet. Fat-tailed gerbils require more attention to animal protein than Mongolian gerbils.
  • Dwarf rat: suitable as a small snack enrichment. Dwarf rats can vary in size, so adjust the quantity to your own animals.
  • Rat: suitable as a snack reward or foraging moment. Rats often enjoy searching for, grabbing, and carrying away small pieces.

For guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, we choose plant-based, fiber-rich snacks such as herbs, leaves, flowers, hay enrichment, or dried vegetables. This insect mix is especially suitable for small omnivorous rodents and is not suitable for herbivores such as guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus.

How do you feed the Insect Mix?

Mealberry recommends 1 teaspoon, 1 to 3 times a week, pure or mixed with the main food. For small animals such as mice and dwarf hamsters, a very small amount is often sufficient. For larger animals such as rats, you can dose slightly more, but even then, it remains a supplementary snack.

  • Give as a supplementary snack alongside the daily basic diet.
  • Use as a protein supplement, not as the main food.
  • Give 1 teaspoon 1–3 times per week, depending on the species and size.
  • For small animals, you can offer a few pieces separately.
  • Optionally mix it into the food when your animal needs to get used to insects.
  • Hide small pieces in a foraging area, snack mat, or digging box.
  • Store in a dry, cool, and tightly sealed place.
Usage How to offer it? Good to know
As a protein moment Give a small amount separately or mixed with the food. Practical for foods without added animal protein.
For foraging Hide a few pieces in a snack mat, digging box, or foraging area. This way, a small protein moment immediately becomes a search query.
In social animals Distribute small amounts over multiple places. This way, multiple animals can participate comfortably.

Compound

Dried silkworm pupae, black soldier fly pupae, mealworms, crickets.

This composition consists entirely of insects. The different insect species provide variation in scent, taste, and texture. As a result, the mix is suitable as a targeted animal protein supplement for small omnivorous rodents.

Analysis

Crude protein 49%, crude fat 15%, crude fiber 5%, ash 9%, calcium 1%.

The analysis clearly shows that this is a protein-rich snack. Therefore, use the insect mix as a supplement alongside a suitable main diet, and not as a daily basis. Especially in small quantities, this mix can add a lot to variety, scent, and foraging enjoyment.

Good to know

  • This is a complementary feed and not a main food.
  • Use as an animal protein supplement or snack.
  • For small animals, a small amount at a time is sufficient.
  • For fat-tailed gerbils, paying extra attention to insects in the diet makes sense.
  • Store in a dry, cool, and tightly sealed place.
  • Check the smell, color, and texture before offering the snack.
  • Remove leftovers when they become wet, dirty, or less fresh.

Mijn hamsters zijn dol op deze insecten mix! Het is ook nog eens een hele rijke mix van mooie hele insecten, dus geen gebroken stukjes, maar echt mooie grote meelwormen.
