Product description

Trixie Woven Willow Tunnel in three diameters

The Trixie Braided Willow Tunnel is a natural tunnel, hiding place, and chewable play element all in one. The tunnel is made of willow and available in three diameters: ø 10 cm, ø 15 cm, and ø 20 cm. This allows you to choose the size that suits your pet's body size and how you intend to use the tunnel.

A tunnel provides animals with a sheltered passage, a nice hiding place, and extra variety in the enclosure or run. Many rodents, rabbits, and ferrets enjoy walking through tunnels, sitting inside them for a moment, or nibbling on them. The green 'suitable for' logos on the product image help you choose the right size for each animal.

Why choose a willow tunnel?

A tunnel is a simple way to create more shelter and routes within the enclosure. Your animal can walk through it, shelter inside, nibble on it, or use the tunnel as part of a regular route. This makes the willow tunnel not only fun but also practical.

The woven willow structure provides a natural appearance and invites nibbling. Some animals use the tunnel primarily as a passageway, while others enjoy sitting in it for a while or slowly gnaw it further open. That is part of using willow as a natural material.

Because this tunnel is available in three diameters, you can make a much better choice based on size. A tunnel must be spacious enough so that your animal can walk through it comfortably. The animal should not be cramped, should not have to squeeze, and should be able to fit through the opening with a normal body posture.

Which diameter do you choose?

Choose the diameter based on your animal's body size and also pay close attention to the green 'suitable for' logos on the product image. These logos show, for each size, which animals the tunnel is intended for.

  • ø 10 × 25 cm: the smallest diameter. Suitable for smaller animals that fit through a narrow tunnel and prefer to use sheltered routes.
  • ø 15 × 33 cm: the middle diameter. A nice intermediate size for animals that need more space than the smallest tunnel, but do not need a large rabbit tunnel.
  • ø 20 × 38 cm: the largest diameter. Suitable for larger animals that require a wide passage, such as larger guinea pigs, rabbits, or animals that should not be forced to walk through a tunnel.

Are you unsure between two sizes? Then it is better to choose the larger diameter. A tunnel that is slightly wider is often used more easily than one that is just too tight. Extra space is especially pleasant for animals with a broad build, a full coat, or a calm way of moving.

For which animals is the Trixie Braided Willow Tunnel suitable?

This tunnel is suitable for various animals, but always depends on the chosen diameter. Therefore, do not look only at the animal species, but especially at the size of your animal, the diameter of the tunnel, and the logos on the product image.

  • Mouse: choose a small diameter if you want to use the tunnel as a route, hiding place, or chewable play element. Ensure that the tunnel lies stably and does not roll.
  • Dwarf hamster: choose a suitable small or medium diameter, depending on the enclosure and the desired use. The tunnel can be used as a route, hiding place, or hamsterscaping element.
  • Hamster: choose a diameter in which your hamster can walk through the tunnel comfortably. For Syrian hamsters, a wider diameter is often more pleasant than a narrow tunnel.
  • Gerbil: choose a suitable diameter and use the tunnel as a gnawable play element, route, or part of gerbilscaping. Gerbils can gnaw through willow quickly; this is inherent to this material.
  • Rat: choose a diameter in which your rat has plenty of room to move. The tunnel can be used as a play element, route, or dry sniffing spot in a low play zone.
  • Dwarf latrine: choose an appropriate diameter based on body size. Use the tunnel low and stable, for example as part of a ratscaping setup.
  • Guinea pig: choose a generous diameter so that your guinea pig can walk through it comfortably and does not get stuck. A willow tunnel is nice for guinea pigs as a sheltered passageway or resting place.
  • Rabbit: choose the largest diameter when you want to use the tunnel for rabbits. Always check that your rabbit fits through it with plenty of room and place the tunnel securely in the run or rabbit room.
  • Chinchilla: choose a suitably large diameter and place the tunnel in a dry location. Chinchillas can nibble on it and use the tunnel as a hiding or play element.
  • Degu: choose an appropriate diameter and check regularly for wear. Degus are active gnawers, so the tunnel may be modified more quickly by your animals.
  • Ferret: choose only a large diameter in which your ferret can move comfortably. Use the tunnel low and stable as a playful passageway or hiding place.

Usage & placement

Place the willow tunnel low and stable in the enclosure, run, or play area. Ensure that the tunnel does not roll away when your animal walks into it or pulls on it. For animals that like to push, gnaw, or dig, you can partially secure the tunnel between bedding, hay, or other furnishings.

Use the tunnel as a passageway between two parts of the enclosure, as an extra hiding place in a quiet corner, or as a chewable play element. For hamsters, gerbils, and mice, the tunnel fits nicely into a natural scape. For guinea pigs and rabbits, it works well as a low, sheltered passageway in the run.

Do not use the tunnel as a high climbing structure or as a bridge to a dangerous fall point. This product is best suited when offered low, stable, and easily accessible.

Naturally nibbling on willow

Willow is a natural material that many rodents and rabbits enjoy nibbling on. That is precisely part of the function of this tunnel. The tunnel can therefore gradually become smaller, more open, or frayed as your animal plays with it.

Inspect the tunnel regularly. Remove loose or sharp pieces and replace the tunnel when it loses its firmness. With strong rodents such as gerbils, degus, and some rabbits, a willow tunnel may wear out faster than with animals that primarily use it as a passageway.

Great to combine with

The Trixie Woven Willow Tunnel fits well into a natural interior. You can combine it with:

Cleaning and maintenance

The tunnel is made of natural willow wood. Therefore, it is best to clean it dry. Shake out loose bedding, hay, and dirt, and use a dry brush to remove any residue if necessary.

Preferably do not clean willow while wet. If willow remains damp for a long time, the material may become less attractive or develop a musty smell. If the tunnel becomes wet, dirty, or severely damaged, replacement is usually the best option.

Good to know

Offer the Trixie Braided Willow Tunnel only under supervision and check regularly for wear. Always choose a diameter in which your animal can move around comfortably. Use the tunnel low and stable, and replace it when it develops loose, sharp, or damaged parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What diameters are available for the Trixie Woven Willow Tunnel?

The tunnel is available in three diameters: ø 10 cm, ø 15 cm, and ø 20 cm. The corresponding lengths are approximately 25 cm, 33 cm, and 38 cm.

How do I choose the right size?

Choose the size based on the diameter, your pet's body size, and the green 'suitable for' logos on the product image. Your pet must be able to walk through the tunnel with plenty of room and in a relaxed manner.

Is my pet allowed to gnaw on the willow tunnel?

Yes, the tunnel is made of willow and may be gnawed on. However, check regularly to ensure that no loose or sharp parts develop.

Is the ø 10 cm tunnel suitable for small animals?

The ø 10 cm tunnel is the smallest diameter and is intended for smaller animals that fit through a narrower tunnel. Always check if your animal can pass through it comfortably.

When should I choose ø 15 cm?

The ø 15 cm tunnel is an intermediate size. This size is useful when ø 10 cm is too tight, but ø 20 cm is unnecessarily large for your animal or enclosure.

When should I choose ø 20 cm?

The ø 20 cm tunnel is the most spacious variant. You choose this for larger animals or when you deliberately want to create a wide passage.

Can I clean the tunnel with water?

Preferably not. Willow is a natural material and stays at its best when kept clean and dry. Replace the tunnel if it is wet, musty, or damaged.

Can the tunnel be used in a natural setting?

Yes, the willow tunnel fits well into natural decor, hamsterscaping, gerbilscaping, and ratscaping. Use it low and stable as a route, hiding place, or gnawable element.

Onze gerbils vinden deze tunnels helemaal geweldig! Ze hebben de kleine tunnel in no time helemaal op geknaagd. Als tunnel gebruiken we daarom ander materiaal, maar als amusement kopen we er regelmatig een
