Product description

Trixie Hoekhuis Jesper 32 cm for mice, hamsters and gerbils

The Trixie Corner House Jesper 32 cm is a wooden corner house for small rodents such as mice, hamsters, and gerbils. Thanks to its corner shape, you can cleverly place the house in a corner of the enclosure. This creates a sheltered resting place, while leaving enough room for tunnels, bedding, a running wheel, foraging areas, and other furnishings.

The house is made of bark wood, has an open bottom and a flat roof. As a result, it blends in nicely with the bedding, and the roof can also be used as an extra resting or lookout spot when the house is standing low and stable. The natural look fits well with hamsterscaping, gerbilscaping, and a calm mouse setup.

In short

  • Wooden corner house of approximately 32 × 21 × 13 cm
  • Openings of approximately 8 × 9 cm
  • Suitable for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils
  • Made of wood with a natural bark look
  • Open bottom, allowing the house to sit flush with the bedding
  • Flat roof as an extra resting or lookout spot when the cottage is stable
  • Space-saving corner model for smart furnishing
  • Offer only under supervision and check regularly for wear

Why choose a corner house?

A corner house is practical when you want to organize an enclosure. Instead of placing a house in the middle of a walkway, you utilize a corner as a quiet hiding zone. This gives your animal a fixed place to sleep, rest, or retreat for a moment, while the rest of the enclosure remains open for movement and enrichment.

Shelter is important for small rodents. An enclosure with only open space can feel restless. By placing a small house in a corner, you create a recognizable, safe spot. This is especially nice for animals that like to explore their surroundings from a sheltered spot.

The flat roof makes the house extra functional. Animals can use the roof as a low resting point, lookout spot, or route within the enclosure. However, always place the house low and stable so that the roof does not become a high step or a falling point.

For which animals is the Trixie Hoekhuis Jesper 32 cm suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a spacious hiding place in a mouse enclosure. Mice can use the house to rest, collect nesting material, or as part of a route with tunnels and other hiding places.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a wooden house or extra hiding place. Place the house low and stable in the enclosure, for example partially embedded in the bedding.
  • Hamster: suitable for hamsters that fit well through the openings and can use the house comfortably. For larger Syrian hamsters, always check that the opening and interior space are spacious enough.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a hiding place and lookout spot in a gerbil enclosure. Gerbils are active gnawers, so check the wood and bark regularly for wear.

This house is too small for rats, pygmy rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, degus, and ferrets. For these animals, it is better to choose a more spacious house with larger openings and more interior space.

Usage & placement

Place the Jesper Corner House low and stable in a corner of the enclosure. Place it on a flat surface or press it lightly into the bedding so that the house cannot slide, tilt, or sink. Thanks to the open bottom, you can position the house flush with the bedding layer.

For hamsters and dwarf hamsters, low placement is especially important. These animals are not true high-altitude dwellers and have difficulty judging depth. Therefore, use the roof only as it naturally forms part of the enclosure: as a low resting or lookout point, not as a stepping stone to a dangerous height.

For gerbils, you can combine the house with a sturdy layer of bedding, tunnels, and gnawing material. Keep in mind that gerbils may actively work on wood. This is part of their behavior, but the house must remain safe.

Bark wood with a natural look

The little house is made of bark wood. This gives it a natural, rustic look and makes it a perfect fit for an enclosure with wood, cork, moss, hay, bedding, and other natural materials.

Because bark wood is a natural product, every cabin may differ slightly in color, structure, and finish. It is also possible that some bark may peel off in certain places. This is part of the natural character of the material. However, do check regularly to ensure that no sharp or loose parts develop.

Information about resin-free bark wood for rodents

Should you worry about wax?

No, with this type of wood, you do not need to worry about that. The softwood species used contain no resin canals and are dried for a long period. The glue used is also non-toxic to animals and consists of a mixture of cellulose.

This makes the small house suitable as wooden furnishings for small rodents, provided you keep the product dry, place it low and stable, and check regularly for wear.

Instinctive hiding place for small rodents

Small rodents often feel more comfortable when they have multiple sheltered spots. A corner house helps to clearly mark such a quiet place. The house can be used as a sleeping place, a resting spot, or as part of a route through the enclosure.

For hamsters and gerbils, a corner house also works beautifully in a natural setup. You can combine it with bedding, bridges, tunnels, cork, moss, and foraging material. This creates not only a small house, but a logical zone within the enclosure.

Cleaning and maintenance

Preferably clean the wooden house dry. Shake out loose bedding, nesting material, and leftover food, using a dry brush or cloth if necessary. Use a slightly damp cloth only when absolutely necessary, and allow the wood to dry completely before putting it back.

Regularly inspect the house for gnawing marks, loose bark, sharp edges, cracks, or wear. Replace the house when it is no longer sturdy or safe to use.

Great to combine with

The Trixie Corner House Jesper 32 cm fits well into a natural setup for mice, hamsters, and gerbils. You can combine it with:

Good to know

Offer the Trixie Corner House Jesper 32 cm only under supervision and check regularly for wear. Place the house low and stable, prevent it from tipping over or sinking, and remove loose or sharp parts. This house is too small for larger animals; in that case, choose a more spacious house with larger openings instead.

Enigszins misleidend.
