Product description

Trixie Run for Young Animals with Safety Net

The Trixie Playpen for Young Animals with Safety Net is a practical metal playpen for temporary supervised run-out. The playpen consists of 6 panels, has a door, and comes with a safety net. Due to the small mesh size, the playpen is intended for young animals and small rodents for whom larger bar spacing would be too wide.

The safety net helps prevent animals from jumping or climbing out of the run and simultaneously offers extra protection against unwanted visitors from outside. Half of the net is solid and can therefore serve as sun shading. This makes this run convenient for a short, supervised run indoors, in a safe place outdoors, or on a well-sheltered balcony.

In short

  • Metal run with 6 panels of approx. 58 × 38 cm
  • Total dimensions: approx. ø 116 × 38 cm
  • With door and safety net
  • Mesh size / bar spacing: approx. 1 × 1 cm
  • Includes pegs to secure the run more firmly.

Advantages of the Trixie Playpen with Safety Net

Small mesh size, handy for young animals and smaller rodents
Safety net helps limit the escape and climbing of other animals
Half of the net is dense and provides extra shade
With door for easier access
Can be expanded with an extra run for more play space

Why choose a run with a safety net?

A separate run temporarily gives your animal more room to move than its permanent enclosure. This can be nice for young animals, small rodents, or animals that want to safely walk around, sniff, and explore under supervision.

The safety net is an important component in this regard. Small and young animals can unexpectedly jump, climb, or try to squeeze through small openings. The net helps to seal the top better. It also provides extra protection when the enclosure is used outdoors or on a balcony, as it is more difficult for cats, birds, or other animals to reach it.

Furthermore, the solid half of the net provides a shaded area. This is especially important outdoors, as small animals can quickly suffer from heat, drafts, or sudden changes in weather. Therefore, always place a run in a sheltered, safe spot and stay with it.

How do you use this run?

  • Place the run on a flat, safe surface.
  • Secure the safety net securely around the run.
  • Use the included pegs when placing the run outside on grass.
  • Always ensure there is shade, shelter, and a quiet spot.
  • Stay with your animal while using the run.

Use this run as a temporary enclosure, not as a permanent home. Optionally, place a small house, tunnel, water bowl, and some familiar furnishings inside so that your animal does not have to sit in the middle of an open space. Prey animals, in particular, feel more comfortable when they have an immediate hiding place.

For which animals is this run suitable?

  • Young animals: suitable as a temporary enclosure when the small mesh size is needed to help prevent slipping through.
  • Rats and pygmy rats: suitable as a temporary run under supervision. Rats are good climbers, so always check that the net is securely fastened and that they cannot get under the net or along the edge.
  • Small rodents: suitable as a temporary, supervised run when the enclosure is safely set up and properly monitored.
  • Young guinea pigs or young rabbits: only suitable as a temporary enclosure under supervision. For long-term roaming or larger animals, a more spacious, higher enclosure is often preferable.

For hamsters and gerbils, outdoor use is usually not logical. These animals can be easily startled, are avid diggers, and benefit greatly from their own safe enclosure with deep bedding. If you still wish to temporarily let a hamster or gerbil run in a pen, it is preferable to do so indoors, on a completely safe surface, and always under direct supervision.

Indoors, outdoors, or on the balcony?

  • Indoors: useful for controlled tracking on a safe floor. Watch out for cables, gaps, furniture, and other pets.
  • Outdoors: use only in calm weather, in the shade, and under supervision. Check the ground for poisonous plants, moisture, manure, sharp parts, and escape routes.
  • Balcony: only use when the balcony is completely safe and your animal cannot fall off or slip underneath anywhere.

Extra supervision is important outdoors. The safety net provides additional protection but does not replace supervision. Cats, birds of prey, wind, heat, and startled reactions remain points of attention.

Trixie Playpen for Young Animals with Safety Net for Rodents

Expand with extra panels

Do you want to create more space for walking? Then this run can be expanded with an extra run. More space is especially nice when your animal is a bit more active or when you want to furnish the run with a house, tunnel, water area, and play materials. When expanding, please ensure that the run remains stable and that the safety netting stays securely in place.

Cleaning and maintenance

  • Clean the panels when there is dirt, urine, or mud on them.
  • Check the connections and panels regularly.
  • Let the run dry thoroughly before storing it.
  • Check the safety net for holes, loose edges, or wear.
  • Store the run dry when not in use.

Before each use, check that the run is stable and that the net is securely fastened. It is especially important to check the edges and the net very carefully with rats and other clever climbers.

Good to know

  • Use this run only as a temporary run under supervision.
  • The safety net must always be properly secured.
  • The run is not intended as a permanent residence.
  • Never leave animals unattended outside in the run.
  • Always ensure shade, shelter, and check the ground outdoors.
  • Rats are good climbers; when you have rats, be extra careful to check that the run and the net are properly closed.
