Product description

Trixie Climbing Rope Wall 27 cm for mice, rats, and small birds

The Trixie Climbing Rope Wall 27 cm is a challenging climbing element made of wood and sisal netting for real climbers. Mice, pygmy rats, rats, and small birds, in particular, can use this wall to climb, balance, explore, and be occupied in the enclosure.

The climbing rope wall can be easily hung from the bars of the enclosure using the metal chains. You can use it vertically as a climbing wall, hang it at an angle as an extra route to a platform, or incorporate it into a natural setup. For rats, this wall also fits nicely into ratscaping , for example as a climbing route between platforms, tunnels, and other enrichment.

Why choose a climbing rope wall?

A climbing rope wall provides animals that enjoy climbing with extra exercise and variety. Instead of just walking from platform to platform, they have to use their paws, maintain balance, and choose their own route. This makes the setup more active and interesting.

For mice, the wall can be a fun climbing route in a high-furnished enclosure. Mice are true climbers and enjoy using multiple levels, ropes, branches, and platforms. However, hang the wall so that any potential fall is always broken by bedding, hammocks, platforms, or other safe intermediate layers.

For rats and pygmy rats, the climbing rope wall can serve as an extra route between platforms or as part of a playful ratscaping setup. Not every rat enjoys climbing via a net, but curious and active rats can be kept nicely occupied with it. For rats, preferably do not place the wall freestanding in the middle of a large open height, but rather as a practical route along a wall, platform, or hiding place.

How do you use the climbing rope wall in a rodent enclosure?

  • Securely attach the wall to bars, a platform, or a stable mounting point.
  • Use it vertically as a climbing wall or diagonally as a route to a plateau.
  • Ensure that the wall does not rub against sharp edges.
  • Prevent deep open fall heights under and around the wall.
  • Regularly check whether the sisal net, wood, and chains are still sturdy.

For animals that are less adept at climbing, hanging at an angle is often more pleasant than completely vertical. This makes the challenge more accessible and keeps the route logical within the enclosure.

For which animals is this climbing rope wall suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a climbing wall, a route to a platform, or part of an active mouse enclosure. Mice enjoy climbing and often actively use height.
  • Dwarf Ridge: suitable as a small climbing challenge or route within the enclosure. Hang the wall securely and not over a deep open space.
  • Rat: suitable as an extra route, exploration element, or part of ratscaping. Active rats, in particular, may find this interesting.
  • Small birds: suitable for small birds such as canaries, budgies, and similar birds as a climbing element in the cage or aviary.

For hamsters and gerbils, a hanging rope climbing wall is usually less logical. These animals benefit more from low bridges, tunnels, cork, platforms, and landscaping material that aligns with their way of moving on and in the substrate.

Ratscaping with the climbing rope wall

Within ratscaping, you can use the climbing rope wall to connect different zones in the enclosure. Think of a slanted route from a platform to a hiding place, a climbing section along the wall, or a play element between tunnels and hammocks.

  • Preferably hang the wall as a route, not as a standalone obstacle without a clear function.
  • Combine with platforms, hammocks, tunnels, and foraging areas.
  • Ensure soft or broken-up fall zones.
  • Check if your rats enjoy using it; not every rat likes climbing a net.

For rats, practical hanging is important. A wall that logically leads to something is often used better than a climbing wall that doesn't connect to anything.

Products for parakeets and small birds

Also nice for small birds

The Trixie Climbing Rope Wall is also suitable for small birds. Birds use their feet, beak, and balance all day long. A climbing rope wall provides extra variety alongside perches, ladders, swings, and, of course, bird toys.

For example, hang the wall diagonally between two perches, against the bars, or as an extra climbing route in the cage or aviary. Also, regularly check that the sisal net and the attachment remain in good condition, especially for birds.

  • Suitable for small birds such as canaries and budgies.
  • Fun to climb, balance, and explore.
  • Combine with natural perches, ladders, and swings.
  • Always check regularly for wear and loose fibers.

Material and dimensions

  • Material: wood and sisal net
  • Dimensions: approx. 27 × 24 cm
  • Attachment: metal chains
  • Use: climbing wall, scrambling element, inclined route or bird climbing wall
  • Suitable for: mice, pygmy rats, rats and birds
  • Safety advice: only offer under supervision and check regularly for wear

Cleaning and maintenance

  • Check the sisal net regularly for loose fibers, fraying, or damage.
  • Check the wooden parts for gnaw marks and sharp edges.
  • Check the metal chains and suspension points for sturdiness.
  • Use the wall in a dry place.
  • Replace the climbing rope wall when the net, wood, or suspension system is no longer sturdy.

Because the wall consists of wood and sisal, wet cleaning is not ideal. Remove dirt locally and allow the wall to dry thoroughly if it has become damp. In case of heavy soiling or wear, replacement is the best option.

Good to know

  • Offer only under supervision.
  • Check regularly for wear, loose fibers, and gnaw marks.
  • Securely attach the wall to bars, a platform, or another stable mounting point.
  • Prevent deep open fall heights under the wall.
  • For rats, the wall often works best as a logical route to a platform or hiding place.
  • For small birds, check regularly for fraying and loose fibers.
  • Replace the wall if the sisal net or the suspension is damaged.

Verder tevreden!
