Product description

Trixie Soft Rodent Brush for Guinea Pigs and Rabbits

The Trixie Soft Rodent Brush is a fine coat brush for guinea pigs and rabbits. The brush helps with coat care, removing loose hairs, and getting through shedding periods smoothly. The soft metal pins allow you to gently comb through the coat without immediately pulling hard on the hairs.

The brush fits comfortably in the hand thanks to the non-slip rubber coating. This is handy, because calmness and control are important during grooming. The brush comes with a small comb that allows you to easily remove loose hairs from the brush after use.

Pros of the Trixie Soft Rodent Brush

Soft metal pins: pleasant for gently combing through the coat.
Handy for loose hairs: supports daily or weekly grooming.
Non-slip handle: lies firmly in the hand while brushing.
Includes brush cleaner: the small comb helps remove hair from the brush.
For guinea pigs and rabbits: especially nice for animals with a fuller, longer, or shedding coat.

Why choose a soft brush?

Coat care is not only intended to keep the coat beautiful. By brushing gently and regularly, you can remove loose hairs and spot tangles, dirt, or sensitive spots in the coat more quickly. This is especially useful for long-haired guinea pigs, long-haired rabbits, and animals that are shedding.

A soft brush is pleasant when you want to groom the coat without immediately using a hard comb. The metal pins move through the coat and pick up loose hairs. For animals that find brushing stressful, you can build it up gradually with short sessions.

At DRD, we like to look at what a product practically does for both the animal and the owner. This brush is particularly suitable for maintenance, breaking in, and loose hair. For stubborn tangles, another grooming tool may be needed, such as a comb or a detangling comb.

For which animals is this brush suitable?

  • Guinea pig: suitable for coat care, especially for long-haired guinea pigs, full coats, and shedding periods.
  • Rabbit: suitable for gentle grooming and removing loose hair, especially for rabbits with a longer or denser coat.
  • Small rodents: only use when the size and fur of the animal are suitable. Brushing is usually not necessary for mice, hamsters, and gerbils.
  • Chinchilla and degu: not the first choice for normal grooming. These animals have a different coat structure and primarily use a sand bath for grooming.
  • Ferret: can be used when the brush glides smoothly through the coat and the animal remains calm, but for ferrets, always choose a grooming tool that suits the animal's coat and sensitivity.

How do you use the Trixie Soft Brush?

  • First, let your animal sniff the brush calmly.
  • Begin with short, gentle brush strokes.
  • Brush in the direction of hair growth.
  • Work carefully around sensitive areas such as the belly, groin, and hindquarters.
  • Stop when your animal becomes restless and try again later.
  • Use the included comb to remove hair from the brush.

It is better to make brushing a short and calm grooming moment rather than a long session. Especially with animals that are still learning, a few minutes at a time often works better than going on for too long.

Use for guinea pigs

For guinea pigs, coat care is particularly important for long-haired breeds or animals with a full coat. Loose hairs can get caught, and with long hair, tangles can form more quickly, especially on the hindquarters and around the flanks.

Brush gently and check in the meantime that the coat remains clean and fluffy. For long-haired guinea pigs, it can help to schedule regular, small maintenance sessions. This keeps grooming manageable and helps your guinea pig get better accustomed to the brush.

Use for rabbits

Rabbits can lose a lot of loose hair during molting. By brushing gently, you help remove loose hairs from the coat. This is especially pleasant for rabbits with a thick, long, or fluffy coat.

Pay close attention to the skin, as rabbits can be sensitive. Do not pull on tangles and do not brush too hard. If you encounter a stubborn tangle, proceed carefully and choose a suitable comb if necessary, or ask for advice if in doubt.

When do you use this brush?

  • During shedding, when a lot of loose hairs are released.
  • For long-haired guinea pigs and rabbits as regular maintenance.
  • When you want to keep the coat airy and well-groomed.
  • After checking the coat, for example for dirt or loose hairs.
  • As a calm acclimatization moment for animals that still find grooming daunting.

The correct frequency depends on the coat. A short-haired animal often requires less grooming than a long-haired animal. Pay close attention to what you see and feel: loose hairs, tangles, or a heavier shedding are signals to brush more often.

Brush gently and without pulling

Always start gently. If necessary, hold the coat loosely with one hand when brushing through a thicker section. This prevents pulling on the skin. It is better to brush gently over a small area several times than to brush firmly through the coat once.

Does your pet get stressed easily by grooming? Then keep the sessions short and associate brushing with a quiet place, a familiar surface, and perhaps a small reward. This makes grooming more predictable.

Cleaning the brush

After use, you can remove loose hairs from the brush with the included comb. This keeps the brush clean and makes it more pleasant to use next time. Remove hair and dirt after every brushing, especially when multiple animals use the same brush.

If necessary, carefully clean the brush with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry thoroughly. Also check if the pins are still nice and straight and smooth.

Kocht deze voor onze cavia’s. Een van de cavia’s is een dik harige. Hij rijdt enorm en want dat deze borstel de haren zou meenemen. Helaas.

  • + Fijn in de hand.
  • - Houdt de haren niet bij. Vliegen er meer in het rond dan er op borstel zit
