Product description

JR Farm Hay House Carrot for Rodents & Rabbits

JR Farm Hay House Carrot is a natural shelter and chew house for rodents and rabbits. The house is made with mountain meadow hay, lignocellulose, plant starch, and a tasty carrot topping. This provides your animal not only with a sheltered spot to crawl into, but also something to sniff, pull, and nibble on.

You can choose from three sizes: small, medium, and large. The small version is a nice fit for small rodents such as hamsters, dwarf hamsters, and mice. The medium version is suitable for animals such as guinea pigs and degus. The large version offers more space and is therefore suitable for larger rodents and rabbits, depending on the size of your animal.

A hay house immediately adds extra atmosphere and structure to the enclosure. You can use it as a hiding place, a chew toy, or as part of a natural setup. The root topping makes the little house extra attractive to explore.

Which size fits your pet?

Choose the size based on your pet's body size, the entrance to the shelter, and the available space in the enclosure. A shelter should be easily accessible and feel spacious enough for your pet.

Variant Format Weight Often goes well with
Small 15 x 9 x 10 cm 75 grams Hamsters, dwarf hamsters, mice and other small rodents
Resourse 27 x 18 x 17 cm 350 grams Guinea pigs, degus and medium-sized rodents
Big 37 x 24 x 21 cm 600 grams Larger rodents and rabbits, depending on the size of your animal

Why choose JR Farm Hooihuis Wortel?

A nice shelter gives your pet a place to retreat for a while. This is especially pleasant for animals that like shelter, such as hamsters, mice, gerbils, guinea pigs, degus, rats, and rabbits. JR Farm Hay House Carrot combines that shelter with natural materials and an attractive carrot topping.

The little house has a sturdy structure and can be used for nibbling, sniffing, and exploring. The exterior consists of fiber-rich plant parts, while the carrot-filled top is especially interesting for animals that enjoy discovering something tasty.

You can place the hay house loosely in the enclosure, partially nestled among the bedding, or use it as part of a natural setup. For extra foraging fun, you can place a small amount of hay or suitable herbs around the entrance. This way, the little house immediately becomes part of the daily sniffing and searching.

Because JR Farm Hooihuis Wortel is also a complementary food, it does not replace main feed or daily hay. View it primarily as natural enrichment: a hiding place, nibbling area, and discovery area all in one.

For which animals is the hay house suitable?

JR Farm Carrot Hay House is suitable as natural enrichment for rodents and rabbits. Choose the size that suits the animal and the enclosure.

  • Hamsters and dwarf hamsters: the small variety usually makes a nice hiding and gnawing house.
  • Mice: the small variant is nice as a natural hiding place and place of discovery.
  • Gerbils: choose an appropriate size depending on the group size and the enclosure.
  • Guinea pigs: the medium-sized variety often makes a good place to chew and hide.
  • Degus: the medium-sized variant is suitable as a natural gnawing structure and hiding place.
  • Rats and dwarf rats: usually choose medium or large, depending on the size of the animals.
  • Rabbits: the large variant can be used as a natural nibbling and exploration spot, depending on the size of your rabbit.

Usage & placement

Place the hay house in a dry spot in the enclosure. Set it down firmly so that your animal can easily get in and out. For animals that like to dig, you can partially incorporate the house into the bedding for a natural look.

Do you want to turn it into a foraging moment? Then place some hay or suitable herbs around the entrance. Your animal will then have to sniff and search, making the little house even more interesting.

Inspect the hay house regularly during use. Remove loose, wet, or dirty debris to keep the enclosure fresh. If the house has been heavily gnawed on or no longer stays tidy, you can replace it.

How long does one hay barn last?

The lifespan depends mainly on the animal species and how enthusiastically your animal nibbles on it. Some animals use the hay house primarily as a hiding place, while others are quicker to gnaw on the edges or the root topping.

Variant Weight With gentle use When actively nibbling
Small 75 grams several days to longer depending on the nibbling behavior
Resourse 350 grams several weeks to longer depending on the nibbling behavior
Big 600 grams several weeks to longer depending on the nibbling behavior

Use the hay house as natural enrichment alongside appropriate main feed and, where applicable, hay.

What does this compound mean?

The base of the hay house consists of fiber-rich plant parts such as mountain meadow hay and lignocellulose. Lignocellulose is a plant-based fiber component that helps make the house sturdy. Plant starch contributes to the shape and structure.

The carrot topping makes the little house extra attractive to discover. Due to the combination of shelter, chewable texture, and fragrant topping, JR Farm Hay House Carrot is primarily intended as natural enrichment alongside the daily diet.

Good to know
