The Trixie Flip Board Strategy Game is a round foraging board for animals that love to search, slide, open, and discover. You hide small snacks, kibble, or herbs in the squares, after which your animal has to figure out how to get to the reward on its own. This makes snack time more active and provides an extra mental challenge.
When it comes to foraging toys, DRD looks not only at “fun toys,” but primarily at how a product is used. This Flip Board is well-suited for rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus that can be challenged in a gentle manner. Always use the game under supervision and remove it as soon as it is empty so that it does not become a gnawing object.
✔ Stimulates searching, smelling, dragging, and discovering
✔ Various opening techniques make the game varied
✔ Suitable as a joint activity for pet and owner
✔ Non-slip thanks to rubber ring on the bottom
✔ Handy for small rewards, kibble, herbs, or suitable snacks
✔ Supports motor skills, learning instinct, and daily enrichment
Many animals are offered their food or snacks ready-made. That is practical, but it requires little searching. With a strategy game, you turn a small snack time into an activity. Your animal has to smell where the reward is, lift a lid, move a slider, or open a compartment.
This aligns well with natural foraging behavior. Instead of eating everything immediately, your animal has to take a moment to think and try. The pace of eating slows down and the moment lasts longer. This is especially nice for smart, curious animals like rats and degus, but guinea pigs and rabbits can also derive a lot of pleasure from a gradually built-up food puzzle moment.
The most important thing is not to start the game too difficult. An animal that succeeds immediately remains motivated. Therefore, it is smart to fill visibly the first few times and perhaps leave one square slightly open already.
For small animals such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, this Flip Board is usually less practical as a standard toy. The board is quite large, and the opening techniques are better suited to larger animals that can work purposefully with their noses, lips, or paws.
Fill a few compartments with small rewards. Think of kibble from the daily portion, dried herbs, dried vegetables, or a small, suitable snack. It is better to use small amounts so that the game remains an activity and does not become a large extra meal.
Show your animal where a treat is located the first time. You can leave one lid half open or slide a small lever a little. This way, your animal understands that there is something to be had. After that, you can make it more difficult step by step.
Keep playtime short. A few minutes of concentrated searching is often enough. Is your animal becoming impatient, knocking over the board, or gnawing on it? Help out briefly, make it easier, or take the game away and try again later.
This product is especially fun as a shared activity. You set up the board, offer gentle encouragement, and help when needed. This allows you to immediately learn how your animal thinks and searches. Some animals primarily use their noses, others their paws or lips. That makes every animal different.
For guinea pigs and rabbits, it can be pleasant to place the game in a quiet spot, away from the hustle and bustle of other animals. With group animals, you can distribute several small rewards or offer the game to each animal individually. This prevents one animal from solving everything while the other merely watches.
For rats and degus, play can actually be interesting as part of a broader enrichment routine. Alternate it with digging boxes, foraging material, tunnels, and other puzzle games.
Foraging toys don't have to be complicated. The goal is for your animal to have something to do that aligns with searching, sniffing, and trying. A Flip Board is a clear, straightforward form of enrichment in this regard: the reward is hidden, but still accessible.
Do not use the game all day long, but as a short enrichment moment. This keeps it interesting and prevents the board from being seen as gnawing material. Also, alternate with other feeding methods, such as scattering herbs through hay, hiding snacks in a digging box, or distributing pellets across multiple spots.
In the video, you see how a strategy game works and how animals learn to search, slide, and open. Always start easy and gradually build up the challenge.
Tip: remove the game as soon as it is empty. This way, it remains a supervised foraging moment and you prevent your animal from gnawing on the plastic.
The Flip Board is made of plastic and has a rubber ring for extra grip. Clean the board regularly, especially when using fresh vegetables or moist snacks. Remove crumbs and leftovers from the compartments after each use.
Wipe the board with lukewarm water and dry it thoroughly before using it again. Regularly check the sliders, lids, edges, and anti-slip ring for wear, gnaw marks, or loose parts. Do not use the game if it is damaged.

We blijven oefenen.
