Product description

JR Farm Nibbles Mix for rodents, rabbits, and birds

Would you like to give your animal a natural snack it can work with itself? JR Farm Nibble Ear Mix consists of dried wheat ears with the kernels still inside. Your animal therefore has to pick the kernels out of the ears, loosen them, and eat them itself. This makes it not just a snack, but also a small foraging activity in the enclosure.

These ears are especially fun for animals that enjoy searching, gathering, and nibbling. You can place an ear loosely in the enclosure, tuck it between the bedding, or offer it in a foraging corner. At DRD, with these types of snacks, we focus primarily on what your animal can do with them: searching, harvesting, and choosing for themselves. That is precisely what makes these wheat ears so fun to use in a natural setup.

In short

  • Natural dried wheat ears from JR Farm
  • Your pet can pick the grains out of the ear itself.
  • Great for foraging, nibbling, and of course searching behavior
  • Great for use in hamsterscaping and gerbilscaping
  • Also suitable for birds that like to peck loose seeds.
  • Complementary feed / single feed
  • Not grain-free
  • Contents: 30 grams

Why choose JR Farm Nibbles Ears Mix?

The nice thing about wheat ears is that the snack is still in a natural form. Instead of loose grains in a bowl, your pet gets an ear that it really has to work for. That makes snack time more active and interesting. Hamsters, dwarf hamsters, mice, and gerbils, in particular, often enjoy pulling the kernels loose themselves and possibly taking them to their stash.

Natural harvest snack with wheat ears
Stimulates poking, searching, and self-harvesting
Nice as an enrichment to the enclosure
Fits nicely into natural decor, hamsterscaping, and gerbilscaping
Can be laid loosely or placed upright in bedding
Also suitable for birds that like to pluck and forage

What use do your animal have for these wheat ears?

Many small animals are naturally engaged in searching, gathering, and selecting. With JR Farm Nibble Ear Mix, you give your animal the chance to extract grain kernels from the ear themselves. This adds not only flavor but also activity. Your animal can smell, choose, gnaw, and pry the kernels loose one by one.

For hamsters and gerbils, this is especially fun because the ears also fit nicely into a natural-looking setup. You can place them upright in a thick layer of bedding, so it looks as if your animal is walking through a small foraging area on its own. For mice, pygmy rats, and rats, you can offer the ears in smaller pieces. For guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, you use them primarily as a small change of pace alongside the daily diet.

For which animals is JR Farm Knabbel Aren Mix suitable?

This snack is suitable as supplementary enrichment for rodents, rabbits, and birds. Because it consists of wheat ears, this is not a grain-free snack. Give small portions and adjust the quantity according to the size, species, and needs of your animal.

  • Mouse: ideal as a small harvest snack; mice can pry the pellets loose, search for them, and take them away.
  • Dwarf hamster: very suitable as a foraging snack; give a small piece of ear and let your dwarf hamster harvest it itself.
  • Hamster: nice as a natural snack in the enclosure, especially for hamsters that like to collect and hoard.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a natural activity; gerbils can pull on it, nibble, and loosen the pellets themselves.
  • Dwarf rat: suitable as a foraging snack to investigate, hold, and nibble on.
  • Rat: fun as a snack to discover together, pry loose, and take along.
  • Guinea pig: can be offered as a small variation alongside hay, guinea pig food, and a variety of herbs.
  • Rabbit: suitable as a small, natural snack alongside hay, appropriate rabbit food, and enrichment.
  • Chinchilla: give very sparingly and specifically as variety; hay, herbs, leaves, and branches remain the primary snack route.
  • Degu: consciously give small portions as variety alongside a simple base of hay, herbs, branches, and appropriate food.
  • Bird: suitable for birds that like to pry loose seeds and exhibit natural plucking behavior.

How do you offer JR Farm Nibbles Ears Mix?

You can offer the wheat ears in various ways. The easiest way is to place a small piece loosely in the enclosure. If you want to provide more of a challenge, you can place an ear upright in deep bedding or attach it with a treat clip.

  • Place a loose piece of ear in the enclosure as a foraging snack;
  • Place a spike upright in deep ground cover for a natural effect;
  • Cut or break larger ears smaller for small animals;
  • attach a ear of corn to bars or the structure, if necessary with a snack clip;
  • Scatter loose grains that fall from the ear through a foraging tray;
  • Remove leftovers when they become dirty or damp.

Because wheat ears contain grain, use this snack as a treat alongside the daily basic diet. It is better to give small pieces than too much at once. This way, it remains a fun foraging activity and the package lasts longer.

Compound

Wheatgrass.

Analysis

Crude protein 12%, crude fat 1.8%, crude fiber 11.1%, crude ash 4%, calcium 540 mg/kg, phosphorus 3150 mg/kg, sodium 100 mg/kg.

This composition is suitable for a natural grain/harvest snack. The wheat kernels provide scent, flavor, and above all, some fiddling, as your animal has to pull the kernels out of the ear itself. The added value therefore lies not only in the eating, but also in the foraging and being active.

Good to know

JR Farm Nibble Ear Mix is a natural product. As a result, the length, color, shape, and size of the ears may vary from package to package. Some kernels may also fall out of the ears during transport. You do not need to throw these loose kernels away: you can actually use them to scatter throughout a foraging tray or between the bedding.
