Product description

Pineapple Plush Sleeping Bag for Rodents

The Pineapple Plush Sleeping Bag is a soft, cheerful hideaway in the shape of a tropical pineapple. Your pet can crawl inside, rest, or retreat to a sheltered spot. Thanks to the soft plush and foam filling, the sleeping bag feels cozy, and the pineapple shape remains clearly visible in the enclosure.

This sleeping bag is suitable for mice, pygmy rats, rats, guinea pigs, chinchillas, degus, and ferrets, as long as the size fits and your animal uses the textile properly. Extra monitoring is important for chinchillas and degus, as these animals are true gnawers. As soon as loose threads, holes, or gnawing damage appear, remove the sleeping bag from the enclosure.

Why choose a plush sleeping bag?

A plush sleeping bag provides your pet with a soft and sheltered place to lie down peacefully. The pineapple shape makes the sleeping bag not only practical but also very nice to look at in the enclosure. Animals that like to snuggle into soft spots, in particular, may find such a cozy hiding place pleasant.

At DRD, we always consider the animal's behavior when it comes to textile products. Textiles are fine when your animal uses them to lie in or sleep peacefully. They are less suitable when your animal chews on them, pulls out threads, or tries to detach pieces of fabric.

Which size do you choose?

The Pineapple Plush Sleeping Bag is available in three sizes. Always choose the size based on your pet's body size, the opening, and how your pet likes to lie. If you are unsure between two sizes, the larger size is often more comfortable if your pet likes to lie with room or wants to turn over easily.

Mate Opening Practical for
13 × 13 × 14 cm approx. Ø 6 cm Small animals such as mice, provided they use textiles neatly.
23 × 23 × 19 cm approx. 11 cm Dwarf rats, rats, and smaller guinea pigs, depending on body size and lying behavior.
38 × 38 × 40 cm approx. 17 × 23 cm Wider selection for guinea pigs, ferrets, and larger animals that like to lie in a sheltered spot.

For mice: small and sheltered, but check carefully.

For mice, the smallest size can be a cozy hiding place. Mice love sheltered spots and enjoy crawling through small openings. Only use the sleeping bag if your mice leave the fabric clean and do not gnaw off any loose pieces.

Do you see your mice pulling up fabric or taking parts to the nest? Then remove the sleeping bag from the enclosure and opt for natural materials such as wood, cork, cardboard, or safe nesting material instead.

For dwarf rats and rats: soft sleeping bag on the bottom

For dwarf rats and rats, the medium or larger size can serve as a soft hiding and resting place. Rats often enjoy using soft spots to sleep in, either together or alone. Place the sleeping bag on a stable spot on the floor or on a safe, low platform.

Regularly check rats for gnaw marks, loose threads, and fraying. Many rats use textile nets, but some animals like to make holes or pull seams apart.

For guinea pigs: soft hiding place on the bottom

For guinea pigs, the medium or larger size can be suitable as a soft hiding place on the bottom. Always check if your guinea pig can comfortably fit through the opening and if there is enough room to lie down quietly. Guinea pigs like to use soft spots as resting places, but not every guinea pig leaves textiles alone.

Place the sleeping bag in a dry spot and not in a toilet area. If your guinea pig pulls or gnaws on the fabric, remove the sleeping bag and opt instead for a sturdy house, tunnel, pee pad, or floor mat.

For ferrets: cozy sleeping bag, provided the size fits

Ferrets often love soft, sheltered sleeping spots. The largest size can be a nice resting place for some ferrets, provided the opening and interior space are a good fit for your ferret. Always check that your ferret can easily get in and out.

Ferrets can be playful and powerful. Therefore, pay close attention to seams, edges, and any wear and tear. Wash or replace the sleeping bag when it becomes dirty, wet, or strongly smelling.

For chinchillas and degus: only if they do not gnaw on textiles.

Chinchillas and degus are true gnawers. Therefore, this sleeping bag is only suitable if your animals leave textiles completely alone. As soon as you see them pulling at the fabric, loosening threads, making holes, or trying to eat the fabric, remove the sleeping bag from the enclosure immediately.

For chinchillas and degus, sturdy platforms, wooden hiding places, branches, gnawing material, and species-appropriate furnishings remain the most important foundation. This sleeping bag is therefore only an extra soft option for animals that use textiles properly.

For which animals is the Pineapple Plush Sleeping Bag suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable in the smallest size, provided your mice do not gnaw through the textile or carry loose fabric to the nest.
  • Dwarf hamster: not suitable. Dwarf hamsters usually do not use textiles as sleeping bags and can gnaw through soft fabric or drag it to the nest.
  • Hamster: not suitable. For hamsters, deep bedding, natural nesting material, sand, and sturdy hiding places make more sense than textiles.
  • Gerbil: not suitable. Gerbils are real destroyers and gnawers; textiles will likely be destroyed quickly.
  • Dwarf rat: suitable in the medium or larger size, depending on the size of your dwarf rats. Always check if the opening and interior space fit.
  • Rat: suitable as a soft sleeping bag, hiding place, or resting spot in the enclosure. Check regularly for gnawing damage, loose threads, and fraying.
  • Guinea pig: suitable in the medium or larger size, provided your guinea pig can comfortably fit through the opening and the fabric stays neat.
  • Rabbit: not suitable. This sleeping bag makes no sense for rabbits, and the textile can be prone to digging, pulling, and gnawing.
  • Chinchilla: suitable if your chinchilla does not destroy or eat textiles. Check extra carefully for loose threads, holes, and gnawing damage.
  • Degu: suitable if your degus do not destroy or eat textiles. Degus gnaw intensively, so supervision is extra important.
  • Fret: suitable in the largest size when the size and opening fit well and the textile remains intact.

How do you use the sleeping bag?

Place the sleeping bag on a flat, stable spot in the enclosure. Preferably use it in a quiet resting corner, not in a wet toilet area. Ensure that the opening is easily accessible and that your animal can easily get in and out.

Usage Practical tip
Mouse enclosure Use the smallest size only when your mice leave textiles neat.
Rat enclosure Use as a soft hiding place on the ground or on a safe, low platform.
Guinea pig enclosure Place on a dry resting spot and check if your guinea pig fits comfortably through the opening.
Chinchilla/degu enclosure Only use when your animals keep textiles clean; check extra often for gnawing.
Textile inspection Check daily for loose threads, holes, torn seams, fraying, or rodent damage.

When do you take the sleeping bag away?

Remove the sleeping bag as soon as your animal chews through the textile, pulls out threads, or tries to eat pieces of fabric. The textile must remain intact for comfortable and safe use. Also, wash the sleeping bag or replace it temporarily if it is wet, dirty, or has a strong smell.

For animals that destroy textiles, more natural and sturdier material is often a better choice. Think of wooden houses, cork tunnels, floor mats, sturdy platforms, cardboard tunnels, or other materials that are better suited to gnawing behavior.

Cleaning and maintenance

Regularly remove hair, bedding, and loose dirt from the sleeping bag. Gently clean the sleeping bag by hand and let it dry completely before placing it back in the enclosure.

After cleaning, check that the seams, edges, and fabric are still firm. Do not use the sleeping bag if the textile has become thin, torn, or frayed.
