gerbil cooling stone Do Gerbils Need Cooling?

Yes, Gerbils also need cooling in the summer when it gets really hot. They are desert animals that are used to warm temperatures, you would think, but that is not entirely true. In the wild, the animals protect themselves against both the heat and the cold by digging tunnels. Depending on the temperature, the animals dig the tunnels deeper or less deep in order to regulate the temperature. Unfortunately, they do not have this luxury at home and we have to help them out!

When is cooling necessary for Gerbils?

We advise to keep an eye on the animals from a temperature of above 25°C. If the animals show signs of heat by for example lying down on a plateau or the ground cover, this can be a signal to offer cooling.
