Looking for guinea pig treats or biscuits as an occasional reward? In this category, you'll find tasty, practical treats for a pleasant bonding experience: ideal for taming, weighing, nail clipping, or simply as a "good job" gesture.
The most important thing is always the basics: unlimited guinea pig hay , supplemented with appropriate guinea pig food and fresh drinking water. Treats and biscuits are therefore a supplement : small portions, big fun.
At DRD Rodent Shop®, we select snacks based on ease of use, composition, and variety in texture. We've been specializing in rodents and rabbits since 2011 .
Handy for short training sessions or when your guinea pig needs to cooperate. Consider well-known lines like Selective , Beaphar , and Versele-Laga (depending on availability and variety).

Cookies are often a bit firmer and easy to break into small pieces. Ideal if you want to give "just enough" without going overboard.
Prefer to make more conscious choices? Grain-free snacks →
Want a snack that encourages more "natural snacking" behavior? Choose spicy options and combine them with hay or sprinkle it in a sniffing area.

Put treats (or crumbs) in a foraging station or toy: this makes it more of a “searching” activity and less of a “fast eating” activity.

Why give guinea pig treats or biscuits?
A snack is primarily a moment of connection : you reward calm behavior, you make grooming more positive, and you can build trust. This works best when you use snacks deliberately: small portions, clear timing, and not too often. This way, it remains special and fits into a balanced routine.
Guinea pig biscuits or guinea pig treats: which is right for your guinea pig?
Choose based on goal and eating style :
- For rewarding/training : small treats that you can give quickly (one at a time).
- For a “treat” : a biscuit that you break into pieces (handy portioning).
- For a more exciting foraging experience , choose spicy varieties and hide them in hay or enrichment.
- For sensitive eaters : start with one type and alternate slowly (this way you can see what works well).
Tip: Want to snack more naturally? Then also check out dried vegetables or dried fruit (always eat fruit sparingly).
How do you give guinea pig treats responsibly?
Keep it simple: small, occasional, and at a fixed time . Many owners enjoy 2–3 snack times per week (depending on the animal, weight, and overall diet). If you feed your guinea pigs multiple types of food a day, it's best to opt for mini portions.
- Break cookies into small pieces (then it remains “a reward” and not “a meal”).
- Preferably give it by hand or put it down in a fixed place (calm ritual).
- Does your guinea pig keep eating like it's in a hurry? Then hide some of it in hay or enrichment.
Smart combinations: snack moments that also add something
A snack is even more fun (and often "neater" in quantity) if you combine it with the basics:
- Sprinkle in hay for searching behaviour: guinea pig hay .
- Create a snack route with foraging spots: play & foraging .
- Alternate with spicy options: guinea pig herbs .
- For longer nibbling moments : look at snack sticks or special snacks .
Hygiene & storage
✔ Store sweets and biscuits in a cool, dry place and tightly sealed (to prevent moisture and odour loss).
✔ Remove leftovers from the enclosure to prevent crumbs and the attraction of dirt.
✔ Give smaller portions and top up later: this keeps it neat and manageable.
Checklist: guinea pig treats properly arranged
✔ Hay always remains the basis: guinea pig hay .
✔ You use sweets/cookies as a supplement (small portions).
✔ You have a “reward moment” (taming/grooming) instead of random snacking.
✔ You make it more fun with searching: playing & foraging .
✔ You alternate with spicy or vegetable options: herbal snacks & dried vegetables .
Safety
Always give treats in moderation and choose products intended for guinea pigs. Introduce new treats slowly and observe how your guinea pig reacts (appetite, droppings, and behavior). If in doubt or if your guinea pig suddenly refuses to eat, consult a veterinarian.
