Rabbits have an unusual calcium metabolism. In cats and dogs, calcium absorption is regulated at the intestinal level and adapted to the body's needs. Excess calcium in the diet is excreted in the feces. In rabbits, this is different, and calcium absorption is less well-regulated. It appears to be proportional to the calcium content of the diet, regardless of the body's needs. Excess calcium is therefore excreted through the urinary tract, often resulting in urine with a high degree of calcium deposits. In animals susceptible to this, this can lead to pain and illness. Vetcare Urinary Health Rabbit Food offers a nutritionally complete and balanced daily diet for rabbits of all breeds and ages (from 20 weeks). It is suitable as long-term nutrition for rabbits prone to urinary tract disorders.
