When it comes to good coat care, a sandbox is highly recommended for some rodents. A sandbox can be used for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas and degus. Gerbils and Chinchillas actually need these to keep their fur in good condition. If these animals do not get a sandbox, serious problems with the fur and skin can occur.

Besides that these animals love to roll in the sand, the sand has other functions. Sand also has a scouring and cooling effect. In the wild, these rodents bathe in sand to care for their fur on the one hand and to get rid of any parasites on the other. Because sand has a degreasing effect, it ensures ventilation between the hairs and therefore cooling.

Not every type of sand is suitable for bathing. Only soft chinchilla sand can be used for this. Other types of sand are either too coarse or too sharp.

Pay attention! Never use shell sand in the sandbox. This sand is too sharp for the skin of the hamster.

Special digging buckets are available for rabbits. These are made of decent quality wood and are suitable as digging / playing bowl for rabbits. For anyone who has ever let his rabbits walk in the garden, it will no longer be a secret that rabbits really love digging. By giving them a sandbox, they can continue to show this natural behavior without plowing the garden.
