WHICH SIZE RUNNING WHEEL IS SUITABLE FOR MY RODENT
The image below shows which size running wheel is suitable for your rodent.
The dimensions we use are the minimum comfortable dimensions for an adult animal. Younger animals can often run in a smaller size, but will quickly outgrow it. The biggest problem with "too small" running wheels is that the back is kept in a crooked position, which is harmful to the animals and can cause health problems in the longer term.
WHICH RUNNING WHEEL IS SUITABLE FOR MY RODENT?
In principle, no distinction needs to be made. As long as the dimensions are maintained, then the type of exercise wheel is not such an issue. However, we do this, because we believe that not all materials suit all rodents. For example, we are dealing with what we call "real rodents". The "however rodents" are: Gerbils, Chinchillas and Degus. With a bit of bad luck, these animals will gnaw a wooden running wheel completely to pieces within two weeks. The size of the running wheel is suitable, but the material is less suitable.
Wood is quickly gnawed to pieces by these animals, but what about plastic? Plastic is a special case. Most animals do not like to gnaw on plastic, if they do they can bite a plastic running wheel. Because not all "real rodents" gnaw on plastic, the owner must judge for himself whether a plastic running wheel is a good idea or not. We advise against this as a precaution.
