A running wheel is certainly not a must for a Chinchilla, but a running wheel does give the animals extra exercise and challenge. In addition, running in a running wheel is a fun activity for most animals. WHEEL MATERIAL
What is the best material? Wood, Metal, Plastic? It is important for a chinchilla exercise wheel that it is gnaw-resistant. Aluminum is gnaw resistant, easy to clean and lasts a long time.
DO NOT WASH RUNNING WHEELS IN WATER
It is not good for all running wheels to rinse them completely under the tap. It is very important that the rotating mechanism (ball bearing) does not get wet. The more often the rotating mechanism is flushed, the stiffer it becomes and can therefore start to squeak and run more erratically.
ROLLER BEEPS
A running wheel can become more even over time. For a squeaky running wheel, we recommend a drop of olive oil. This can be mounted on the turning mechanism.
